Brixton Favourite, Salon, ReOpens

Undisputed star of Brixton Market, Salon, has been conspicuously closed for the last couple weeks. Fear not, market-goer, Nicholas Balfe’s award winning restaurant and brunch-stop is only regenerating and will be back with an updated and improved version on 1st September. We can’t wait. The upstairs dining room has been transformed, thanks to architects HH+ and interior experts Fitch (responsible for some of our favourite venues including Hackney’s Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town and The Goat in Chelsea). Expect to see their inimitable style create something equally unique at Salon. We’ve been promised marine blue walls, beautiful banquette seating made from reclaimed timbers and grey upholstery and, excitingly, a wine […]

Mathew’s invited 5 chefs from some of London’s favourite restaurants to put their signature stamp on the grilled cheese, each competing against each other for a chance to be crowned the grilled cheese champion. Duo Behind Gunpowder Open Gul and Sepoy

They say three is the magic number and for Harneet and Devina Baweja, this autumn they’ll reach that number as they open their third restaurant, Gul and Sepoy. If you don’t recognise their names then you’ll definitely know their restaurants – the very Gunpowder and Madame D’s. This new restaurant will bring together the royal flavours of Northern India with the more relaxed vibe of the South Western Indian coastline. The name refers to the sections of the menu – on the Gul side you’ll find dishes that echo the age-old banquets of the palaces in North Western India. You’ll […]

The Team Behind Salvation In Noodles Opens MAM

MAM, pronounced mum, is a new restaurant from the team behind the cult East London restaurant Salvation in Noodles and it’s going to be bringing the barbecue street food stalls of Vietnam to All Saints Road to Notting Hill. Mam refers to the art of fermentation, one of those words that doesn’t sound so good, but the results? Fermentation is never going to have tasted so good. There’ll be skewered meat cooked on a robata grill served with owner, Colin’s mum’s homemade fermented dipping sauce, a pungent spicy recipe made with shrimp paste and pineapple. Served sharing style, the skewers […]

TAKA Opens in Shepherd Market

It was in the mid-eighteenth century that a Mr Edward Shepherd was asked to the develop site that Shepherd Market sits on today. Part of the area where the rowdy May Fair which took place each year, (hence the name Mayfair, not quite such a glamorous beginning) when it was completed it featured a duck pond, a two storey market and a theatre. It soon grew into an eclectic mix of restaurants, pubs and boutiques all running along paved alleyways and whilst the theatre and pond might have gone, the restaurants remain and next month will see the opening of […]
