The Handbook Meets Jimmy Garcia

Having just announced his new BBQ Club, we caught up with the King of Pop-Ups, Jimmy Garcia, to find out his secret tips for a good pop-up, his most memorable moments and what happened live on Sunday Brunch. What drew you to pop-ups? Having worked as a chef throughout school and college as well as on yachts in the summers between university, I ended up hating my job as a broker in the city. I really missed cooking for people and after reading about a guy in North London turning his home into a restaurant I thought f**k it, let’s […]

Dine Up Close and Personal With a Michelin-Starred Chef

We all love eating in Michelin-starred restaurants and we love attempting to recreate the food at home (the key here being ‘attempting’) but sometimes our interpretations of dishes aren’t quite like the real deal… You’ll be wanting to make room on your cookery bookshelf because Michelin starred chef Nathan Outlaw has written up a new cookbook, Home Kitchen. It’s his fourth book but it’s the first to have everything covered – and we mean everything – from meat and fish right through to dessert. He’ll be launching his book with a dinner (how else?!), showcasing some recipes from the book at […]

London’s Greatest Sandwich Festival

Oh a good old sarnie. Sometimes, nothing can beat it. We’ve even dedicated a week to celebrating it. Yep, British Sandwich Week is a thing. And now, so is Sandwich Fest – thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign. The festival will see the best of London’s sandwiches all brought to one courtyard, located on Hackney’s Warburton Street. A coincidence? We like to think not. Expect food from the likes of Brindisa, famed for their chorizo roll; Grill My Cheese, who put gourmet twists on the classic grilled cheese; Le Bao, you know, those fluffy cloud like buns filled with a […]

Gunpowder Team Open Madame D’s

Harneet and Devina Baweja, the duo behind Gunpowder are set to open a new restaurant next month, this time exploring the oriental flavours of the Himalayas that they fell in love with, when visiting family in North East India. Madame D’s will bring together the flavours of Indian, Nepalese, Tibetan and Chinese cooking with local ingredients to create a succinct sharing menu. Dishes will include gold coin dumplings, pan-fried Tibetan duck momo, garlic coriander steamed chicken and prawn on toast. Marked by deep red awnings over the windows, the 25-cover restaurant will give a nod to the ramshackle back-rooms that […]

DIY Smores, Table Top Barbecuing and Spanish Gin Cocktails

Southbank is getting a summer pop-up. We’ve seen the urban beach, the roller disco and the helter skelter but this time around there’s a foodie focus as pop-up king, Jimmy Garcia launches The BBQ Club. A walk-up BBQ bar means you can saunter along the river, Aberdeen Angus steak burger in hand, but for the real experience you’ll want to head upstairs to the rooftop dining area. A 6-course tasting menu will be prepared for guests by their very own chef at a Big Green Egg grill (aka the ultimate piece of BBQ equipment) resembling a kind of intimate supper […]

40 Michelin Stars, 30 Chefs, 1 Community Kitchen

As food lovers we are certainly conscious about the sourcing of our food, and both the environmental and ethical effects involved in its production (just think of all the ‘seasonal, British menus’ out there) but it’s all too easy for our awareness to stop the minute that last mouthful has been swallowed. The behind the scenes impact of food waste has been brought to light recently, with incredible initiatives like the wastED pop-up restaurant at Selfridges and Skye Gyngell’s Scratch menu at her Somerset House restaurant, Spring which uses leftovers in innovative ways to make creative menus for their discerning, […]

Yolk: Gourmet Takeaway in the City

It’s a familiar tale: popular street food stall hits the big time and, after establishing a loyal following, gets a permanent home. The best things come in small packages though so Yolk are keeping it real and taking over a little site in Finsbury Avenue Square, just by Liverpool Street Station. Offering nearby office workers a new option for al-desko breakfast and lunch and, as the name suggests, eggs rule the roost. Breakfast, served from 7am, will see egg pots like Yolk’s signature Eggs Benedict pot: poached Buford Brown eggs sprinkled with pulled 24-hour ham hock, topped with a generous […]
