Sliders: Curling and Karaoke

Curling, it’s the sport that you find yourself strangely addicted to during the Olympics, but you’ve probably never played or never known anyone to play. That is until now. Brought to you by the same team as the Rooftop Film Club, tomorrow will see the launch of Sliders, a rooftop curling club in East London which will have everyone sliding rocks towards the house – check us out with our curling terminology. You know what goes well with curling? Karaoke. And who better to sort the singing then kings of karaoke, Lucky Voice. They’ll be hosting two karaoke cabins, The […]

Jones & Sons’ New Home

For four years Jones & Sons home has been an old Victorian textile factory, but from today you’ll find them in Gillett Square as they have upped sticks and moved. The move doesn’t mean that anything will be changing though, they’re still all about seasonality, provenance and uncomplicated dishes and they still have their brunch which includes the likes of fried duck egg and truffle on toast and eggs benedict with plenty of Monmouth Coffee and bottomless drinks. That said they will be unveiling new dishes on the menu. With their new home having more space they’re branching out to […]

Yes, it’s Halloween and Monday today, but do you know what it also is? It’s the opening of Jinjuu Mayfair, the third restaurant from Korean-American chef and presenter Judy Joo – which, after a weekend of pumpkins, we’re much more excited about. Following on from Jinjuu Soho and Hong Kong, the 76-cover restaurant will be opening up on Albemarle Street and will serve up modern Korean street food with a mix of classics and unique-to-Mayfair dishes. Real to Reel Movie Nights

It’s been 100 years since one of the earliest examples of war on the big screen and since then war and conflict have been the settings for many of last centuries most popular films, whether it is central to the film or a backdrop for a love story. The Imperial War Museum is exploring this in their latest exhibition ‘Real to Reel: A Century of War Movies’ as well as hosting a series of events, which celebrates many of these films. This week will see the Real to Reel Movie Nights Presented by The Nomad. It’s a chance to see […]

Forest on the Roof at Selfridges Returns

A rooftop may not necessarily be the first location of choice during the winter, but what if said rooftop had been transformed into an Alpine forest (and was covered by a roof)? Selfridges’ renowned rooftop restaurant has once again been transformed into a dazzling wintry forest; the forest’s walkway has been adorned with glitter balls and splashes of gold, getting shoppers and restaurant goers into the festive spirit… in case the Christmas decorations in Selfridge’s and lights on Oxford Street haven’t done that already. Group Executive Chef for Des McDonald Restaurants, Lee Bull, has created the new winter menu with […]

We all love a good roast in the winter. But even when it’s cold outside, sometimes you just can’t face an enormous plate of stodgy meat and potatoes. 1970s NYC Comes to Brixton

This winter it’s time to head back to 1970s New York. No, we don’t have a time machine, what we do have though is the award-winning team who brought us the South Pole Saloon and Brixton Beach Boulevard and that is good enough for us. Opening today on a Brixton rooftop, you’ll be transported back to a time when hip hop was first emerging, where hordes clamour outside Studio 54 trying to party with Warhol and guerrilla artists take to the streets to colour the concrete streets. A city that never sleeps. Inside Big Apple Brixton you’ll find three indoor […]

HIPCHIPS: Chips and Dips

Scott Davis (Providores, Mirabelle, Fifty St James) had the aim to create the best tasting crisps in the world. And after two years of experimenting, he is set to open HIPCHIPS, with co-founder David Morris, at the end of this month in Soho. Yes, that’s right a whole place just dedicated to crisps. Using five heritage and vintage potato varieties, grown in the north of England, crisps will be cooked and served straight to diners on a conveyor belt. To accompany the crisps will be a unique menu of dips that are influenced by international flavours and classic British combinations. […]

Aristocrat: The Elite’s Club

Opening on Monday is Aristocrat, a discerning nightclub for those in the know. And those in the know are said to be international jet-setters, fashion icons and the art elite. Taking its place on Swallow Street, debauch cocktail fuelled nights are the order of the day, (well, night if we’re being pedantic) and will only be for a select 100 at any one time.  As the name implies, they want you to feel like you’re in the house of the most honourable aristocrats. Modern street art sits next to noble baroque-era backdrops. Golden skulls will punctuate the walls, whilst ornate […]

Silent Pool Gin Pop-up

Next week might be half term for children, 5 glorious days off from lessons (really think they need to make half terms for everyone), but for us who have left the classroom behind, it’s the Silent Pool Gin pop-up at the Hoxton Hotel. Launching on Monday, the Surrey based distillers will be taking over the indoor garden of the Hoxton Hotel, for a week long programme of events including tasting sessions with Master Distiller Cory Mason; brunches which include gin-infused salmon, bespoke cocktails and of course gin and tonics. If you just fancy coming in for a drink, then the […]
