MNKY HSE Opens in Mayfair

Nothing is what it seems… no we haven’t turned our hand to fortune reading (although that could be quite the business venture), that line is actually the ethos behind MNKY HSE, a new bar and restaurant that opens next week on the former site of Dover Street Wine Bar in Mayfair. Fitting name, given it’s the year of the monkey. Set across two floors, it’ll serve Latin American food alongside live music and DJ sets. The black outside door with a monkey head knocker will lure you into space which is set to be dramatic, luxurious and talked about. The […]

The Handbook Meets: Callooh Callay’s Nathan Shearer

Callooh Callay opened its doors back in 2008. An unassuming little bar (from the outside) down a side street in Shoreditch, Callooh Callay is known for its modern interpretations of traditional cocktails so it’s no surprise that the word soon spread that what was happening inside was really quite good. Not to mention that wardrobe that leads to a second bar. Fast forward a few years and it is a regular in ‘Best Bars in London’ (and beyond) lists and has just won “Best Cocktail Menu in the World” at the prestigious Tales of the Cocktail awards – pretty much the Oscars […]

Boyds Grill & Wine Bar Celebrate Slow Food Week

Slow Food Week, ironically, is fast approaching! That dreaded week where it takes an ungodly amount of time for the food to arrive at the table. If you’re unfortunate enough to be in view of the kitchen, you can actually see the waiter/waitress move at a snails pace, dishes in hand, less and less steam coming off the plate as they barely approach. We’re just playing of course, Slow Food Week is all about enjoying food whilst committing to protect the the community and the environment. In celebration of this annual occasion, Boyds Grill & Wine Bar is creating a […]

They’ve teamed up with Perrier Jouët to create a garden in their famous courtyard, plants will be floating, suspended and adorning the living wall. At the heart of the garden will sit a striking string centre […]

Sardine is creating a potential saviour for the worst day of the week by taking on the staples of French cuisine: on the last Monday of every month the restaurant will be celebrating a wonderful ingredient or French occasion. It’s only a slight diversion, but one with a grand feast as the final destination. Embracing ambition and creativity, chef Alex Jackson and co. will be kicking ‘La Grande Bouffe’ off with none other than the Bouillabaisse. To lay on the most grandiose of […]

Oktoberfest Comes To The Frog

Walk around the streets of Shoreditch this Autumn and you’re going to feel like you’re further east (and a little bit further south) than you actually are. Munich to be precise. Oktoberfest is being celebrated all over the city and despite the last minute, unforeseen cancellation of the 2015 London festivities at Tobacco Dock, 2016 is looking brighter. The renowned German festival is coming to The Frog E1 in a collage of big bratwurst, giant pretzels and beer-filled steins; all the iconic elements that bring warmth and comfort to a crisp, dark evening. Pioneering the three-week long celebrations is Head Chef, Adam Handling, […]

Roma Opens: Feast Like an Emperor

When we found out that new restaurant Roma was based on Ancient Rome and the Romans, the first thing we thought of was what we were taught about Roman feasting at school, how they supposedly ate until they could physically eat no more, would be sick and then keep going. Apparently that is a myth… most disappointing. However, they were indeed decadent, they loved to eat, even if some of their dishes were questionable – udders anyone? It’s this passion for food that is inspiring the new Fenchurch restaurant – which history fans might know was the site of a […]
