Urban Foraging: Wild Dinner and Masterclass

Until now, the closest we’ve got to urban foraging is picking the leaves off our coriander plant that sits on the windowsill of our zone 2 flat. Yes, we know wild garlic can be found without too much struggle in a woody park but, with equal risk of picking a bit that had a dog nearby moments before and picking the wrong plant entirely, we’d rather go wild in the herb aisles of Sainsbury’s instead. Smithfield restaurant, Ask for Janice, is inviting curious foodies to explore the world of urban foraging with an evening hosted by a pro wild food forager, […]

Kiln: Rural Thailand Comes to Soho

Founder of Denmark Street restaurant, Smoking Goat, Ben Chapman is back and this month he is opening a second Soho restaurant, inspired by the Thai borderlands, bringing together Burmese and Yunanese flavours: Kiln. Said to be a side-of-the-road type restaurant, Kiln will feature a short grill menu which will see dishes cooked on a wood burning kiln oven and grill both designed by Ben. Whilst the menu looks to Thailand for its flavours, they don’t want to replicate the dishes, rather the ingredients they use will be the best British produce available with whole animals bred specifically for the restaurant. 7 Days of Vodka at Gaucho

Vodka often isn’t considered too much of a civilised drink, more like the failsafe on a night out to give you a really good time but Gaucho are going to change that with their 7 day celebration of the King of Spirits. Beginning on Thursday 8th September, steak supremos Gaucho will welcome ultimate gin brands including Grey Goose and Belvedere across 7 of their restaurants for one-off tastings and masterclasses – it’s the third year of their ‘7 Days’ events, following on from American whiskey last year and gin in 2014. The 2016 vodka series kicks off in Manchester on […]

Blakes Below Opens

Blakes, one of London’s first luxury boutique hotels is famed for its opulent design, the vision of interior designer Anouska Hempel. Michelin-Starred Indian Street Food

There are equal places in our hearts for both street food and fine dining – sometimes only a ridiculously melty gourmet cheese toastie will do, and other times we just need a little more refinement. But what if a Michelin-starred chef tackled street food? Would it be as satisfying as the kerbside version? Critically acclaimed Mayfair restaurant Benares is introducing a street food inspired menu of five small plates but rather than burgers and bao buns, think chicken tikka crispy naan and pickled prawn with crispy rice pani puri – this is Indian street food. Each dish is inspired by […]

Bombay Sapphire Take Over Soho Sky Terrace

Summer’s not over till the fat lady sings and we haven’t heard any singing… The 1st of September supposedly marks the first day of Autumn but knowing British meteorology, it’s not that simple. Soho’s Courthouse Hotel know this and are giving us a little bit of hope with the extension of their Bombay Sapphire Sky Terrace takeover, which is staying open until November. With views of the streets below (hello, Liberty) it makes a change from the ground level cafes that we often turn to when the need a drink and we need it now. The terrace is hosted in […]

Fumo: Italian in Covent Garden

So it seems as if summer is making a final effort, just as we’re about to go into autumn – because from 1st September we are officially in autumn, but rather than getting down that soon we’ll be wearing all the layers again, we’re going to be looking forward to the opening of Fumo which will open on St Martin’s Lane at the start of September. It’s the next restaurant from the multi-award winning San Carlo restaurant group. They’re the team behind restaurants such as Signor Sassi in Knightsbridge and Cicchetti in Piccadilly and Covent Garden. With 130 covers, Fumo, […]

Theatrical Japanese Cocktails at ROKA

If you’re unfamiliar with the word ‘Kabuki’ don’t worry, we didn’t know what it meant either. A classical Japanese performance combining dance and drama, it’s most easily recognised by the distinctive make up worn by performers. UNESCO even count it as an Intangible Cultural Heritage so it’s worth knowing about. You may not have known that but one thing you should really know by know is that anything, be it cultural, geographical or historical, can be used to inspire a menu thanks to a creative chef somewhere out there itching to shake things up.  Award-winning Japanese restaurant, ROKA, is celebrating […]

The Shard’s Brand New Brunch

We all know that if there is one event in any Londoner’s weekend calendar it’s brunch. Sometimes, though, you want something more than just your usual brunch, you want something with a little more decadence than your usual avocado on toast. For when that happens we have the brunch for you – Oblix on the 32nd level of the Shard. Things get off to an indulgent start with a glass of Champagne before moving on to three courses. The menu is a mix of deli counter favourites and classic dishes so think of this as a brunch feast. To start […]

BabaBoom: Bring on the Kebabs

We might not always admit it but if there is one food that we sometime just have to indulge in, it’s a kebab. Yes they might have the reputation of being the sort of food you get on a night out or at some motorway layby but now there is a new breed of kebab restaurant in London which is all about fast, healthy food, with big Middle Eastern flavours. And the next one to open is BabaBoom in Battersea. Opening next week, by Travis, Eve and Jono who have 30 years of experience between them, it’ll be taking Palomar, […]

Eneko at One Aldwych Opens

When a chef has 3 Michelin Stars to their name you can’t help but expect great things. What about if their restaurant is ranked 16th in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants? How about if we add in that their bistro also has a Michelin Bib Gourmand? You’re going to expect something rather wonderful. We’re talking about chef Eneko Atxa (his restaurant is Azurmendi Bilbao and his bistrot is  Bistró Prêt  À  Porter) who has joined forces with Kostas  Sfaltos, the general manager of One Aldwych, to create Eneko at One Aldwych. The menu will be Atxa’s unpretentious take on traditional […]
