Galvin HOP: A Pub de Luxe

Head to Spitalfields Market and you’re likely to find Galvin Café A Vin, well you would have, because now it’s been given a transformation and turned into Galvin HOP – a Galvin Pub de Luxe. Of course it’s not your average City boozer, there’s no mismatched kitsch carpet or red velvet stools for starters. Instead you’ll find a front terrace for summer months, new flooring, classic motifs but in a modern style, tiled walls and four large copper tanks, three of which will be sitting above the bar holding unpasteurised Pilsner Urquell. Accompanying this will be bottled and canned craft […]

5 Hot Jamaican Restaurants

Nothing beats tucking into a polystyrene tray of jerk chicken, washed down with a cold can of red stripe perched on a concrete paving slab. Lucky for us, we don’t have to wait for a street market or festival anymore to fully embrace the sunshine and spice of this authentic cuisine. Brighten up these cold and dark January days and head down to the best Caribbean restaurants in London. Plus what better way to reward yourself after dry Jan than with rum, rum and, er, more rum.

A Very Scandalous Afternoon Tea

For those of you unfamiliar with scandal water, just to quickly stop you from jumping to all sorts of questionable theories, it’s merely 19th Century slang for tea – and is being used as a focal part of the London EDITION’s afternoon tea. Now this may seem like an obvious concept, it is afternoon tea after all but London EDITION has decided to turn their back on the endless stream of sugary treats that normally fill our afternoon teas to focus more on the drink that began the mid-afternoon pick me up. Five teas will be served alongside five dishes […]

This March, The Social Company will be opening their seventh London restaurant and this time it’ll be in Clerkenwell. Following on from the likes of Berners Tavern, Pollen Street Social and City Social, Sosharu will be a collaboration between Jason Atherton and Executive Head Chef Alex Craciun (previously sous chef at Pollen Street Social). 9 of the Cosiest Library Bars

Forget cosy, wood panelled pubs and trendy, cosmopolitan wine bars. This winter, the place to curl up with a nice hot toddy is, believe it or not, the library. No longer the preserve of bookish geeks, pottering pensioners and panicky students, more and more of London’s prestigious hotels and bars are opening swanky, book-filled watering holes, allowing visitors to partake in some seriously scholarly drinking.

Spritz Up Your 2016

If it was summer we’d be out every evening sipping sundowners till, well, the sun goes down. But since we’re still in January and it still gets dark long before we leave the office, our nights tend to be cut rather short. Lack of sunlight hours aside, an evening well spent makes the week feel so much longer and more fulfilled. Combine this potential sense of achievement with the chance to learn something new – a series of talks, Q&As and masterclasses across 3 dates in late January/early February, by which time your other resolutions may have fizzled out. Each […]

Villandry Saves January

Here are two dates for your diary that we say you should take advantage of rather than ignore. Firstly the 17th January – supposedly the day we all ditch our New Year’s resolutions – and secondly, the 18th January, aka Blue Monday – the day the January blues really hit home. However, Villandry is on a mission to make January that bit better for you, with a whole host of offers at both their Great Portland Street and St James’s venues. Book a table at either venue after 6pm and you get a rather nice 25% off your bill, which […]
