Joining London’s group of sky high restaurants is the latest Searcys restaurant, Urban Coterie. In collaboration with Anthony Demetre ( who launched Arbutus and Wild Honey), the restaurant will be opening on the 17th floor of the M by Montcalm hotel in the City. Heading up the kitchen will be Head Chef Martin Zahumensky (formerly at Texture andHibiscus) who will be serving a menu that will be changing monthly to reflect the changing flavours of seasonal ingredients. For starters you’ll find the likes of Brixham crab, apple and celeriac and ox tongue with green vegetables, crisp tripe and oyster mayonnaise. […]
If white tablecloths and quiet, civilised conversation fill you with dread then check out our guide to some of the best family-friendly restaurants in London, much more exciting than colouring pencils and a mini chefs hat. And because we are calling them ‘family’-friendly and not just ‘child’-friendly, you won’t mind eating there either.
You’ve probably seen the Jack Daniel’s adverts in the tube telling us about Jack, they’re pretty hard to miss, but did you know that Jack sold meat and whiskey from a wagon to fund his first distillery? And did you know that meat and whisky go together like fish and chips, salt and pepper and Ant and Dec? Well Gaucho certainly thinks they do (and so do we, if you’re asking) which is why this week they are hosting a seven day celebration of American whiskey in their restaurants. Starting today there will be events across their London restaurants all […]
There’s something so appealing about food shopping on holiday. Exploring a little corner of Italy after a morning lazing by the pool, when the heat gets a bit much to handle. Shelves stacked with intriguing jars and boxes, cured meats hanging from the ceiling and overflowing deli counters with bowls of olives, pastries and cheeses. Sadly these things never seem to travel well; cheese plus 32 degree temperatures equals… yeah, not good. With this in mind it is always exciting to discover a new deli in London, a taste of summer in our own homes. Capricci is a new Italian […]
We can almost hear the jingle bells softly ringing in the distance as the sound of the Christmas season approaches and with it we can expect plenty of minces pies, Santa’s smiling face and of course, Christmas parties. The parties will all no doubt featuring heavily on alcohol and some on food but what they won’t have is acrobats hanging from the ceiling, unless you booked at Ivory Vaults that is. The 10,000 sq ft historic venue is proud of their interactive shows offering a different experience from the norm where guests get to participate by dressing up, singing and […]
At this time of year there is no shortage of festive warming drinks – there’s pretty much a pumpkin spiced latte or spiced hot chocolate on every corner. We really aren’t arguing with this, in fact it’s one of the best things about this time of year. What would be even better is if a venue had the genius idea of overhauling their drinks menu to offer not one but seven festive tipples. The Churchill Bar have themed their winter terrace around the magical world of Narnia and have introduced festive cocktails. Enter through wardrobe doors and snuggle under a […]

Autumn is a time of festivity. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Harvest festival and the Hindu festival of light, Diwali. Celebrated worldwide it is in India that the streets come alive with lights, fireworks and candles and this year the five day festival is being celebrated in London at Michelin-starred Benares Indian restaurant in Mayfair. An eight course tasting menu has been created by chef Atul Kochhar, forget your bland korma and replace with decadent lobster moilee salad, turbot Malvani tikka and Calcutta batak (duck breast). Refreshingly there is a whole separate menu for vegetarians so rather than searching for a little green […]
Following on from the opening of The Ivy Chelsea Garden earlier this year, next Tuesday will see the opening of The Ivy Café in Marylebone. The new venue will be open from breakfast through to dinner and serving everything in between Pippin’s line in Lord of the Rings comes to mind, ‘What about elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner?’ Well our little Hobbit friend, you’ll find that all here as well as brunch and snacks… Highlights from the menu include, crumpets served with marmite, the Ivy Café HLT which is a BLT but with grilled haloumi and avocado, lobster risotto with […]
It may sound familiar as the Kate Middleton’s chosen hotel for bridal party preparations and now The Goring is somewhere you can visit too – for less than the £8,400 Royal Suite price tag. From the 9th November the popular terrace at the hotel will be transformed into a magical and glamorous alpine bar, in ode to ski resort St Moritz. For a hotel who has just won a Michelin star and, of course, has royal approval it’s no surprise that this old-school ski bar has been created with immaculate attention-to-detail. Closely-guarded family cocktail recipes from award-winning barmen have been […]
