Brindisa’s Calçotada Celebrations

If you know what Calçotada is then we’re very impressed. We’ve got to say we had no idea but extensive professional research means we can enlighten you too; the calçotada is a Catalan winter food festival celebrating the harvest of calçot (giant spring onions). A festival involving food, we’re interested. A good old Spanish excuse to eat, drink and celebrate with friends, Calçotada tends to get messy. Giant spring onions are chargrilled and dipped in Romesco sauce and along with red wine, poured into guests mouths from a height – cue laughter and messy faces. Such an authentic celebration can […]

Boxing Night Party at BL-NK

Boxing Day is almost as good as Christmas Day itself. The stresses of maintaining your best ‘gift-face’ when opening presents is behind you, awkward reunions with old Aunt Linda are done and there are enough leftovers to provide turkey soup and turkey curry for weeks to come. After 48 hours of family duties we think it’s acceptable to let your hair down. For Boxing night only, Creche are returning to BL-NK, the venue on Curtain Road, joined by DJs Alexis Raphael, Cozzy D and Johnny Mikes (bonus points if you know all 3). The Chrimbo Limbo (those days between Christmas […]

Festive afternoon tea at the Playboy Club

Combining two of our favourite things with Christmas and afternoon tea, is the festive themed tea inspired by the Playboy Club’s new “Around the World” cocktail menu, and Salvatore “The Maestro” Calabrese’s globetrotting adventures. Salvatore’s Bar is situated inside one of our favourite London venues, the Playboy Club, which oozes old school glamour and sophistication and we love any excuse to pop down. The suitably festive and boozy afternoon tea offers a selection of traditional gourmet sandwiches like a delicious egg cress sandwich, made more interesting with a touch of garlic, and smoked salmon blinis – vegetarian options instead of […]

Christmas at The Imperial

Here’s the scenario, you’ve battled with the other Christmas shoppers on the Kings Road, you’ve elbowed your way out of Peter Jones, oohed and aahed at the lights in Sloane Square, stopped to see Father Christmas at Duke of York Square and now you need a drink. Obviously. When you find yourself in this situation, then we say head away from the crowds and go to The Imperial at the end of Kings Road which will be transforming its garden into a winter wonderland filled with wood burning chimneys and big, comfy sofas with cosy blankets to snuggle under. If you’ve been […]

Jingle Bells Brunch at 34 Review – What We Thought

Remember when we told you about the Jingle Bell Brunch at 34? If you don’t give it a read…Well, on finding ourselves stuck in the midst of the army of Christmas shoppers on Oxford Street, a force to be reckoned with, we weaved our way out of the crowds, feeling positively Scrooge like until we reached South Audley Street and headed to 34 for said Jingle Bells Brunch. They’ve teamed up with Georg Jensen who has just opened their flagship store on the neighbouring Mount Street. Standing proudly by the doorman were two white reindeer with bright pink collars and […]

Le Bab To Open

The kebab, the saviour (or hidden demon) of a night out, the food that you go to when you really need a hit of meat and carbs. Well not anymore, just like burgers and hotdogs, the humble kebab is being given a renaissance with the opening of Le Bab in Kingly Court early next year… sorry you do have to wait a bit. The pair behind this revolution are Stephen Tozer and Ed Brunet who discovered a love for wood-fired cooking and charcoal-grilled meat whilst at university. Since then Stephen has been travelling to collect inspiration whilst Ed has been […]
