Indigo at One Aldwych review – what we thought

Hot on the heels on the trend of healthy eating is Indigo, an established restaurant in the beautiful hotel One Aldwych, which 3 months ago quietly stripped gluten and diary from their menu. Executive Chef Dominic Teague was in charge of this decision and claims that customers haven’t been able to tell the difference; we headed down to check it out. Up one snazzy, pink lit, mirrored elevator and we found ourselves at Indigo which is partially situated on a balcony overlooking the One Aldwych bar. Near Christmas is a good time to go as their towering white Christmas tree […]

Christmas Unwrapped Afternoon Tea Review – What We Thought

I might be one of the only people to say this, but I’m not such a fan of Winter Wonderland. Too many people, the older I get the worse I seem to get at ice-skating and I’m not a fan of enforced fun, in short, it brings out the Grinch in me, I go from Tiny Tim to Ebenezer Scrooge before he sees all the Christmas ghosts. However, what I do like, are Christmas afternoon teas, even when they are right next to Winter Wonderland. So as I joined the crowds piling out of Hyde Park Corner tube, they trooped […]

Ma Petite Jamaica Review – What We Thought

They say they are London’s first Caribbean diner and weirdly, after trying to think how I would sum it up, they are exactly the words I was trying to find – no frills, just Jamaican food in colourful, relaxed surroundings. The portions are huge but even so I’d say this is more of a lunch place than dinner – I can imagine it’s popular with nearby workers and market shoppers to get their jerk fix and perk up their afternoons with wraps and roti. Brightly coloured chairs and a palm leaf umbrella in the main dining area let you know […]

Terroirs Review – What We Thought

Going out to eat around the Strand can be a bit of a minefield; it’s a task to find somewhere genuinely good and all too easy to find somewhere that preys on people who aren’t sure where to look, so they whack up the prices and cut out the quality. Then the inevitable happens and you play it safe in somewhere like Prezzo feeling rather miffed. So don’t eat on the Strand, go back a street to Terroirs, a French bar and wine shop sitting unassumingly on William IV Street. Having opened in 2008 Terroir’s takes its inspiration from the […]

Frontier Room Review – What We Thought

Behind a curtain, nestled at the back of BBQ joint Q Grill is Frontier Room. While the two may be attached, the latter is a stark contrast to the light and buzzing atmosphere of the Camden restaurant. When the curtain is pulled back the restaurant is transformed into a dimly lit space which could easily be mistaken for a speakeasy. Light fixtures on the walls and candles on the table are the only substantial illumination in the room giving a very warm, comfortable atmosphere while providing enough light to easily read menus, converse and avoid banging into tables. Hidden behind […]

Aladino’s Review – What We Thought

If, like me, Egyptian food is something you’ve never tried, think of it as a fusion of the best authentic Greek, Italian, Turkish and Lebanese foods, all delivered with the hearty passion that traditional family recipes bring with them. Open an Alexandrian restaurant in Kensington and you know it will be pretty slick. Crystal chandeliers hang in the main area of the restaurant and Egyptian music played gently in the background. At 7.30pm on a Friday we were surprised to be the only diners, but come 8pm the other diners rolled in. In the meantime we were, at one point, attended […]
