Beef & Brew Review – What We Thought

Minimal. My first impression when arriving at Beer and Brew, the new no-frills steak house in Kentish Town from classically trained Michelin chef Jessica Simmons and ex-financial director Dan Nathan. Kentish Town is very unfamiliar territory for me but the restaurant was easy to find just opposite the tube station. Nestled between a pharmacy and a Western Union, its refreshingly clean, white tiled frontage set the tone for the butchery-themed interior. Greeted and seated by Dan, his passion was clear to see as he talked us through the menu with everything locally sourced where possible. Even the Highwayman gin in […]

Cheyne Walk Brasserie Review – What We Thought

I’m no Champagne expert but when I know that I like something, I know that I like it. On a Monday evening just a little out of the ordinary I headed to the Royal Borough (Chelsea) for a Thiénot Champagne tasting and dinner at Cheyne Walk Brasserie. River views and residential surroundings give this old Victorian pub a neighbourhood feel, albeit with said neighbours being the likes of Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. In anticipation of National Champagne Week, the Brasserie spruced up their usual Wine Club with the more bubbly variety. Perched on a red velvet chaise longue (yes […]

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel Review – What We Thought

When I learned of the opportunity to review a hotel in the city of Exeter, I knew I had to take it. I’m a massive fan of the Devon city, as it’s full of historical sights, dainty tea rooms and plenty of independent shops – all perfect for a weekend getaway! I had been invited to stay for the night at the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel and after a long week of working a bit and socialising a lot, I was in need of a rest. I arrived into the hotel’s lobby and was immediately impressed. The reception is grand, […]

The Gate review – what we thought

London leads the way for veggie friendly restaurants and yet they can still be a struggle to find, The Gate is no different as although Hammersmith is good location you wouldn’t be blamed for walking straight past the venue. A sandwich board with the name on signals that we are the correct place, so we meander around the courtyard to the main entrance and then up some stairs to the actual restaurant which is nice and worth the mini trek. It’s already half full when we arrive which gives it a comfortable buzzing atmosphere without being over crowded but fills up […]

Tapa Room review – what we thought

When wandering up Marylebone High Street trying to find The Providores and Tapa Room, it suddenly made itself known with a sizeable queue of people filling the pavement outside. We nipped inside to secure our booking and saw, as expected, that it was rammed inside. Luckily we were seated quickly and starting browsing the brunch menu which is available 9am-3pm at the weekend.Feeling a bit wild I went for the Sweetcorn and blueberry fritters served with avocado, pomegranate and rocket salad. Sweetcorn and blueberry does seem like an odd mix but it somehow works, the avocado is joined by chunks of […]

Yauatcha Review – What We Thought

What: Deliciously delightful dim sumWhere: Broadgate Circle, the CityWhy you should go there: The service was, without a shadow of a doubt, among some the best we’ve ever experiencedFavourite thing we ate: Venison puff It’s hard to know where to begin with Yauatcha. From the service to the décor to the unbelievably good food, we were blown away by the restaurant.
