Brasserie Chavot Review – What We Thought

In 2013, Eric Chavot opened the Michelin-starred French restaurant Brasserie Chavot on Conduit Street and so following on from The Handbook’s Meeting with Eric, we went to check it out. The restaurant is typically French with deep red banquettes, ornate chandeliers, monochrome floors, mirrored walls and black polished bars, it’s elegant yet relaxed.  The menu includes dishes such as grilled mackerel and potato salad, tartare de saumon and cassoulet de canard et cochon. We started with a glass of Ruinart Champagne and olives…all 7 of them.  Never mind though, with the amount of food we had coming, we probably didn’t need […]

The Corinthia Spa Review: What We Thought

The ESPA life spa at the Corinthia covers four floors, that’s four floors of pure escapism and luxury. It features 17 treatment rooms, a nail studio, Daniel Galvin hair salon, a state of the art gym, a private spa suite and the thermal floor which is where we were headed. As we walked into the spa, down through the serene and white corridor, we could immediately feel our permanent state of tension that Londoners seem to have, release. First of all we headed to the gym to get in a workout before the spa. If you want to talk about […]

Francis Hotel Bath Review – What We Thought

In the past society would head to Bath to take the waters and in need of some respite ourselves we decided to head out of London to the heritage city. It’s just an hour and a half from Paddington and unlike the District Line which I easily spend just as much time on trying to get to East London, you have views of the West Country. We rolled up to Bath the beautiful, regency period city famed for Jane Austen, the Roman Baths and the architectural masterpieces that are the Royal Crescent and the Circus and headed to our hotel. […]

Bourne & Hollingsworth Review – What We Thought

Passing through the silent cobbled streets of Farringdon you turn the corner to find a cosy fairy-lit pub on one side and a wine bar on the other. The best surprise of all was stumbling upon Bourne & Hollingsworth with the huge painted front and enormous swaying Union Jack, confirmation that we had indeed been heading in the right direction. In honour of new executive chef, Adam Gray, and his new winter menu, a press dinner was held at a huge marble-topped table in the greenhouse area. Part jungle, part luxurious garden nursery, the greenhouse was the perfect area for […]

London Cabaret Club Review – What We Thought

To mark the release of Spectre and the fact that they have acquired a new home, The London Cabaret Club has been hosting a series of James Bond inspired evenings, London Never Dies, at the Bloomsbury Ballroom which will soon be their fixed address. So in want of something a little more refined than the pub on a Friday night, we headed over to Holborn to check it out. Stepping into the art-deco building you leave London behind and enter a world of mesmerising acts, glittering costumes and spellbinding performances. The evening starts in the Rose Lounge with Bond themed […]

Hotel Cafe Royal Review: What We Thought

There are some things you just can’t guarantee in London – will the District Line be working?  Will I have to queue for three hours to get into a pop-up, will it rain? But what is certain is that London, Londoners and its visitors will always love afternoon tea. So Hotel Café Royal are celebrating this with their London Royal Afternoon Tea (remember we told you about it here) and not one to say no to tea on a Sunday afternoon we headed over to try it. Before we get to the tea we need to take a moment to […]

The Jam Tree Chelsea review – what we thought

Lining your stomach before dinner with a cocktail that contains double cream may not seem like the smartest idea (because it isn’t) but I still stand by it. When I saw that the Jammy Dodger contained the rarely found ingredient Butterscotch schnapps I was sold, joined by Frangelico and Chambord, double cream and raspberry jam it was one of the best cocktails I’ve had and it was devoured easily. Although the Jam Tree Chelsea does have classic cocktails, much more fun is to be found with their signature cocktails which contain ingredients like peanut butter, Nutella, popping candy and strawberry […]

Sauterelle Review: What We Thought

Last time I visited Sauterelle I knew I was onto something good, first of all there is the location, right in the middle of Bank making it perfect for lunch meetings or drinks after work with my finance friends. Secondly the fact that it isn’t just in Bank, it’s in the magnificent Royal Exchange originally the city’s prime trading floor, architecturally it’s beautiful, when you go, promise you’ll look up and take in the beautiful design, ornate ceilings and grand arches. Thirdly, the food was superb.   So this year after a refurbishment, we decided it was about high time […]
