Noir Cocktail Bar- What We Thought

Who doesn’t love cocktails? Choosing a delicious combination of flavours, watching and waiting for them to be blended into a masterpiece for you and your friends to sample. Team that up with long summer evenings, and you’re on to a winner. As we stepped inside the black doors of Noir, passed the ‘friendly but don’t mess with me’ guy on the door I noticed the sharp black leather and gold interior. The bar felt dark and intriguing, just like the 40’s film genre it shared its name with. The staff immediately looked after us and I could tell we were […]

34 Review – What We Thought

I love London and its restaurant scene. I love that some restaurants are just for walk ins, I love that some pop-ups are all that people can talk about and I love that some restaurants are all about the extra orders. You can also read this in reverse, I don’t like that you have to queue for hours to get in and can’t reserve, I don’t like a pop-up being so crowded you could be forgiven for thinking you’re entering a game of sardines and I don’t like it when you have to order everything as extra. Sometimes you don’t […]

Jean – Jacques Review – What We Thought

Jean Jacques is a new French brasserie and wine bar, set over three floors of a Soho townhouse, whilst it might be a celebration of Jean Jacques Rousseau., it actually comes from a Russian restaurant group. There’s a cosy cocktail bar in the basement, handy for any Ronnie Scott’s overspill, and a lovely little roof terrace on the first floor, for alfresco dining and drinking. The menu features all the French classics that you’d expect from a Russian restaurant – steak tartare, onion soup, poussin and so on. We started with the snails, which were fine, a little under-salted, and […]

SUDA review – what we thought

Thai restaurant, SUDA has a new sharing menu filled with lots of small plates, ideal for sharing or for those who have trouble deciding what to order…or in the rare case you aren’t familiar with Thai food this is an easy way to introduce yourself to it. It was a rare warm day in London over the weekend so we sat by the open doors and got cracking on the delicious cocktail menu with favourites like Lady Suda, a mix of strawberry, watermelon, black pepper, lemon juice with Bombay gin & St.Germain elderflower liquer.Just as the heat and alcohol was […]

Hotel Chantelle Review – What We Thought

Having amassed a crowd of followers in New York already, Hotel Chantelle jumped over the pond to open its first restaurant earlier this year and no, despite its name, it is not a hotel. That said given it’s black exterior and neon sign, had it been another part of town you might be forgiven for thinking it was some sort of hotel. The first thing about Hotel Chantelle is that it’s very unapologetically New York. Music was blaring, cocktails were being shaken and it was full of the most beautiful people all dressed in black. Not the customers, no they […]

CitySwish Review – what we thought

When we were offered the chance to have an in house beauty treatment I jumped on the chance, I’m normally a pretty low maintenance lass (read lazy and ungroomed) so this sounded ideal. CitySwish doesn’t have a venue instead their beauticians come to you at either home, work or wherever there is a reasonable space as long as it’s within London zones 1-3. The treatments vary from manicures and pedicures (which I opted for), spray tans, haircuts, massages and much more. You can book via the website or by downloading the app and then you just sit and wait, it couldn’t […]

Mad Hatter’s Tea Party Review – What We Thought

When Mews of Mayfair invited The Handbook to their special Mad Hatter’s Tea Party celebration of Lewis Carroll’s famous fairytale, we were slightly apprehensive as to what to expect…just how mad would this tea party be? Mews of Mayfair is a tricky spot to find if you haven’t got the help of the brilliant city mapper app, but after walking around for a good 10 minutes, we were met by a kind waiter who wished us on our way as we towered up the steps. We waited with baited breath to see what was behind the wooden doors at the […]

Scents of Summer Tea Review – What We Thought

Remember when we told you about InterContinental Park Lane’s Scents of Summer afternoon tea? Where they joined with Floris to create a floral tea that captured the essence of an English summer garden? Bringing together cakes and Floris’ key summer notes?  Quite considerate really given that the chances are of smelling fresh air and flowers in London during the summer is close to none. Well we decided that we’d go down and check it out for you -who’s being considerate now? The tea is served in the Wellington Lounge which has the same refinement and sophistication as a good English […]

Wave Spa Review – What We Thought

We all know the quote about when a man is tired of London he is tired of life and yes Samuel Johnson probably was on to something, but also maybe he was just tired of the teeming hordes, the less than fresh air and the all too familiar sound of ‘We’re just being held at a red light and will be moving shortly’. So the other day I jumped on the ‘it’ll be so good to get out of London’ bandwagon and headed off to the Crowne Plaza in Gerrards Cross. Yes it’s outside of London, but it’s actually only […]
