Voga at Coq d’Argent Review – What We Thought

It was chucking it down with rain, it felt like the midst of winter and yet still about 20 girls made it to Coq d’Argent for their monthly Voga sessions and I was one of them. Yes I had hauled myself out of bed on a Sunday morning, battled the elements and the Sunday district line to reach the city in time for our morning exercise class. Everyone was surprisingly chipper, we were in various degrees of lycra, looking like a Sweaty Betty shop had arrived, ready to pose, dance and strike our way to fitness. I thought I looked […]

Wave Spa Review – What We Thought

We all know the quote about when a man is tired of London he is tired of life and yes Samuel Johnson probably was on to something, but also maybe he was just tired of the teeming hordes, the less than fresh air and the all too familiar sound of ‘We’re just being held at a red light and will be moving shortly’. So the other day I jumped on the ‘it’ll be so good to get out of London’ bandwagon and headed off to the Crowne Plaza in Gerrards Cross. Yes it’s outside of London, but it’s actually only […]

Bombay Brasserie review – what we thought

I’m surprised that the staff at Gloucester Road station isn’t all on the plump side as the area surrounding it is chock full of fabulous restaurants, including Bombay Brasserie. The high end Indian is a stone’s throw from the tube station which makes it easy to waddle back to after an evening of working through the menu. The restaurant has recently undergone a refurbishment with an updated menu including brunch and the hard work has paid off. We began our evening in the bar area which is low lit and intimate making it ideal for a cheeky cocktail (get in the spicy […]

Corrigan’s Mayfair – What We Thought

The Handbook recently reviewed Richard Corrigan’s restaurant Bentley’s and as we are all about being inclusive, we decided it was only right that we also reviewed its sister venue, Corrigan’s…nothing to do with the promise of more food, we swear. Corrigan’s is an upmarket venue in Mayfair and I was excited to return to the venue after not having eaten there for a while. It is safe to say that I was not disappointed and left feeling impressed and oh so full. Richard Corrigan is a renowned and multi-award winning chef who has been cooking since he was a youngster. Brew Review – What We Thought

It’s always best to address the elephant in the room from the very start. Brew. The name that conjures up images of coffee, cake and dare I say, cyclists.   Upon arrival I glanced at the menu with caution. Was I going to find a Lance Armstrong apple sauce?Or a Eddy Merckx mezze? I hoped not. After a thorough inspection of the choices my heart beat returned to its normal pace. The menu was clean – phew. I decided to go with pizza, but surely you can’t go wrong with pizza?  The Hellfire Pizza, which is what I ordered, involves a […]

Portrait Restaurant Review – What We Thought

What: Audrey Hepburn inspired menu Where: The Portrait Gallery  Why you should go there:   Favourite thing we ate: Veal and ricotta meatballs  If there is one thing I would like to have more of it would be poise. I have about as much grace as small baby elephant which in other words is zero. With this in mind, I went off to the National Portrait Gallery to visit the Audrey Hepburn exhibition, because if anyone could teach me how to be more elegant it would be the actress, dancer and philanthropist who reminded us that Paris never needs a reason and that the […]

Salmontini Review – What We Thought

Ever since sushi first became an ‘it’ food all those years ago, I have loved Japanese cuisine, so I was really excited to try out Salmontini, which promises a modern, yet authentic take on Japanese dining. It is safe to say that I wasn’t disappointed! We began the evening in the lounge area selecting from their bespoke Japanese inspired cocktails including the brilliantly named ‘Aladdin’s wish’ (ginger liquor, chambered and cranberry). I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I could easily work through the entire cocktail menu and it was great to see a tailored menu that offers something extra special, […]
