Afternoon Tea with a Twist and a Tail at the Playboy Club

The Playboy Club is one of my favourite venues, perfectly combining opulence with a sense of fun. Walking into Salvatore’s Bar, the room is heaving with lavishness; plush gentlemen’s chairs and bottles of alcohol displayed in the glass cabinet that cost more than my car set the scene, which is interjected by raucous laughter at the bar as a cocktail master class is taking place. The bunnies are in their festive Santa suits, sashaying confidently around with beaming smiles. One of my favourite meals is afternoon tea; oh you didn’t know afternoon was a meal? Well it definitely is. The […]

Lanes of London

Yesterday we escaped the cold and left the teaming hordes that surrounded Marble Arch on their way to Winter Wonderland and snuck into Lanes of London for their afternoon tea which has been given a bit of a Christmas makeover. The perfect setting for spending whiling away an afternoon, Lanes of London is rather as you’d expect a gentleman’s club to be with dark wood, wing back leather chairs, gilded mirrors and low lighting, it’s sumptuous without pretension. We were presented with the different loose leaf and herbal teas to smell before we made our choice, which I think is […]

Plant-based delivery service Bonapeti launches

In the run up to Christmas the food is coming heavy and fast with delicious comfort food tempting us wherever we go. With a huge roast dinner on the cards, we prepare ourselves in the meantime with carbs galore! Mac’n’cheese – check, cottage pie – check, raiding the advent chocolate calendar – definitely check. But while we may try to rationalise this with the old bulking for winter excuse, unless you are caveman and all food is scarce on the ground, it doesn’t count. Opening just in time for the new year in early January, when the maximum indulging has […]

The Return of The Grill at The Dorchester

If you can think way back to May you may remember that  The Grill at The Dorchester shut its doors to give it a complete refurbishment – that’s the interior, menu and team. Fast forward a few months and there is a new young team with Alain Ducasse’s protégé Christophe Marleix at the helm and a new look created by Bruno Moinard. What’s he created is a timeless, sumptuous restaurant; it’s almost like sitting inside a copper teapot – if you can imagine, a mix of bronze, zinc, mirrors, copper and butterscotch leather chairs and a rather marvellous chandelier. On […]

Bayou’s Blues Brunch

This weekend saw creole bar and restaurant, Bayou, launch its new Blues Brunch; it’s live music and a whole lot of soul food, which was just what we needed when the heavens decided to open and the whole of London was absolutely drenched. Just off Camden High Street, Bayou sits on Iverness Street, hidden behind the market stalls. It’s a strange little place, it’s quite basic, plain wooden tables and chairs and a bar running down one side, but nothing that stood out – apart from the loo walls which were painted with leaves and branches, there were also swamp […]

Zaika reopens after complete refurbishment

Sitting proudly at the top of Kensington high street you might recognise Zaika; from the outside at least as inside there has been a complete refurbishment which extends to the entire staff and management. The former bank makes for a stunning and striking venue with its high ceilings and marble features, the long bar betrays its first purpose with cash register shaped features running along the back of the bar which separates it from the main dining area. It is definitely worth taking a moment to pull up pew at the bar to enjoy their impressive selection of cocktails and […]

The Lancaster’s Afternoon Tea

When it’s this sort of weather there is nothing better than to get out of the cold and set yourself up with good company and better food. With this in mind we headed over to The Lancaster who have recently launched their new afternoon tea. Served in the lounge – which is the perfect setting with dark wooden panels, an open fire and sofas you can just sink into- the tea is classic yet with little contemporary twists and nostalgic sweet inspired cakes. First we were brought Novus loose teas and a mini sand timer so that each type could […]
