The Lancaster’s Afternoon Tea

When it’s this sort of weather there is nothing better than to get out of the cold and set yourself up with good company and better food. With this in mind we headed over to The Lancaster who have recently launched their new afternoon tea. Served in the lounge – which is the perfect setting with dark wooden panels, an open fire and sofas you can just sink into- the tea is classic yet with little contemporary twists and nostalgic sweet inspired cakes. First we were brought Novus loose teas and a mini sand timer so that each type could […]

Frescobaldi London

Following my namesake and having spent the summer inter-railing around Italy exploring Florence, Venice and Rome, the opening of Frescobaldi, the first standalone restaurant in the UK from the Frescobaldi family was one that I was not going to miss. And despite spending three weeks, exploring every nook and cranny of Florence, the closest I got to Tuscany where the food is inspired from, was the wine I had been sampling, so I was looking forward to a taste of it. Whilst most reviewers have described the food at Frescobaldi’s as authentic Italian (which it is), there is much more […]

Wild and Foraged Menu at Paramount

Yes it might be on the 32nd floor on arguably one of London’s busiest roads, but Paramount is putting its urban setting to one side and focusing on all things rural with their Foraged and Wild menu, which is available until the 24th November. It’s four courses of seasonal produce all sourced from our fair island and the ingredients are pretty impressive. We headed up there the other day, to sample it, but before we talk about the food, a special mention has to go the exceptional service, they were quick, friendly, knowledgeable and funny and service really can make […]

Aqua Shard Brunch

Chances are by now you’ve been to Aqua Shard for drinks, but how about brunch? This isn’t just any brunch though this is the quaffing Champagne whilst eating lobster benedict and taking in the views from the 32nd level sort of brunch.   We headed up to the dizzying heights last weekend, make sure you get a reservation, by the time we left the queues were starting to snake around the corner and when it’s windy and cold that’s not fun for anyone.  Once upstairs you’re whisked inside through the glass doors, and hit with staggering views of London, it really […]

Cicchetti

I’m not sure what I was expecting from the new Cicchetti (part of the San Carlo group) when I looked at the website, perhaps a middle of the road Italian in Covent Garden, there wasn’t even a menu. Yes it has good reviews, and yes they must have been doing something right as they’ve had huge success in Manchester and Piccadilly, but if you were going on the website it wasn’t much. Anyway I got to Wellington Street and found the restaurant, their extravagant window display of  smoked and cured meats, which were lit up suggested that perhaps this was […]

Barrecore launches new studio in Chiswick

For those of you not in the know yet, barrecore is a low-impact, full-body interval training programme which boasts fans like Eva Herzigova, Suki Waterhouse and Zara Martin. You may not move from your yoga mat but that doesn’t mean you are in for an easy ride. The Handbook decided to head down to check out a class – if it’s good enough for a supermodel, it’s good enough for us! The movements used are inspired by ballet, yoga and pilates, participants use their own bodyweight as resistance with high repetition exercises to work the muscles to capacity for a […]

B.Y.O.C Camden

On the dark, dark street (that’s Camden High Street), there was a dark, dark door, behind the dark, dark door there was a dark, dark staircase and down the dark, dark staircase there was B.Y.O.C  Camden.  Ok so hopefully some of you know that story, but the gist of it is, is that the new B.Y.O.C (bring your own cocktail) is hidden away behind a non assuming door on Camden High Street – blink and you’ll miss it, the way a speak easy should be. Descend the stairs into what seems alike a cross between a Victorian sitting room (it’s […]

Athenaeum launches Cocktail Catwalk Collection

If you ever needed an excuse to visit the elegant 5 star Athenaeum Hotel on Park Lane, the launch of their Cocktail Catwalk Collection must surely be it. In a nod to September’s London Fashion Week SS15, the bar team has created 5 new cocktails with inspiration taken from the patterns, colours and combinations of style that they saw on the catwalk. All of the drinks are served in martini glasses except for my favourite; The Barbara Casasola, a refreshing mix of Cachaça, Martini Bianco, Lime Juice, Sugar, pineapple Juice and Rosemary. All of the drinks should be enjoyed in […]

Valentina Fine Foods Review

Valentina Fine Foods is a series of Italian restaurants and delis that has recently launched a new branch in Chiswick, we headed down to check it out. From the street Valentina Fine Foods looks like a café and deli with all kinds of authentic produce lining the walls, it’s only after walking in that you realise a smart restaurant sits at the back. Even further back is the open plan kitchen which serves classic Italian dishes, check your table for the list of changing specials which aren’t on the menu. The specials when we went were Mussels to start, served […]
