A Thieves Market of Flavours in Mayfair

Chor Bizarre in Mayfair is an exquisitely decorated Indian restaurant which has based its interior around its name meaning ‘thieves market’ with a mix of beautifully decorated chairs, tables and ornaments filling the dining area. The menus aren’t left out either as they are covered with detailed drawings of the markets with introductions to the dishes before listing the food. The starter of Aloo tikki chaat were nice potato patties filled with spiced lentil and green peas, served warm, topped with yoghurt, tamarind and mint chutney. They were pleasant but lacked the proper Indian spices to separate it from a […]

Leave the Tex Mex Behind

Mestizo, which means a mix of everything, is a Mexican restaurant that lives by its namesake drawing inspiration for their food with a mix of 10 Mexican states. Leave behind your idea of tex mex as this is authentic Mexican food, made by people who have clearly grown up eating and creating these dishes. The food here is really traditional, which is never more apparent once the starter of Tamales Costenos had arrived. The tamales comprise of corn maize filled with your choice of pork with morita chile, pollo pibil or beans & cheese wrapped in a banana leaf, and […]

Love Brunch at Kensington Roof Gardens

Up until now I had always thought of brunch as a post party affair, normally slightly hung over from the night before, we would go in search of eggs royale, strong cups of coffee, bacon and maple syrup pancakes and sometimes a bloody Mary or two. Or if not the night before, post gym/early morning catch up with friends. That was until I went to LoveBrunch. It started when a group of friends who met every weekend for brunch, slowly expanded until they reached almost twenty and realised they were on to something. As more friends joined them they started […]

Central and Co

Central and Co instantly strikes me as a young, trendy, well decorated bar and diner which is perfectly situated a few minutes’ walk from the busy hubbub of Oxford Street. Large clear doors have been opened so that the tables spill out onto the street on this warm evening. Inside we are led down the long dining space and situated nearer the bar, a perfect location as soon as I spy the tempting cocktail menu. We started off with a Lemon and vanilla martini, and instantly found our favourite accompaniment for the evening. I dabbled into the Caffeine ol’Fashioned but […]

Brunch at The Pantechnicon

Having recently launched their new brunch menu, a visit to The Pantechnicon was must.  Once we had battled against tube delays, underground closures and a ten minute queue just to get out of the station, we found our way to quaint little Motcomb street just off bustling Sloane Street. With the tables outside nicely filling up, we actually escaped the heat and sat inside the light airy bar downstairs, which at midday was quiet with only a couple of tables, by one however it was almost full. With cool, neutral, calm colours the bar was friendly whilst also being sophsticated […]

Dirty Martini Summer Nights

Tucked away in a corner of Hanover Square you will find one of London’s two Dirty Martini bars, and last week we made a trip down to Oxford Circus, to spend an evening trying out their new ‘Summer Nights’ Thurdsays! We made ourselves comfortable on the chic leather seats, surrounded by cocktails, and the attractive murmur of chitter-chatter, soaking up a wonderfully relaxed yet up-beat ‘tonight-is-going-to-be-a-good-night’ atmosphere. The evening consisted of, funnily enough, a vibrant summer themed menu of cocktails, and a BBQ platter the perfect size to share with a friend. It was filled with bite sized burgers and […]
