The Lockhart Review

Last week The Handbook headed over to Marble Arch for a little bit of good old fashioned South Western American food at The Lockhart. We arrived as the restaurant was filling up, a few people at the bar and families and couples around the small white wooden tables which were adorned with mismatch crockery. The restaurant itself is minimal think exposed bricks and wooden floors- yet it is still cosy, with twinkling candles and warm soft lights. We snuck off downstairs to the bar, naturally, to start with cocktails. Forget sugary pinks and chemical greens these cocktails are all about […]

DRINK at Goat Review

Last week The Handbook made the most of Thursdays being the new Friday nights with a trip to Goat on the Fulham Road, but we didn’t go to dine, well we did sneak in a pizza at the end, no instead we went for cocktails, to DRINK to be precise. The upstairs bar at Goat, DRINK recently relaunched at the end of last month giving it its own entrance to make it a venue in itself. Still in keeping with that New York- Italian feel, the atmosphere is charged but relaxed, sophisticated but informal. It’s all very dark wood, darker […]

Sauterelle at The Royal Exchange Review

The Royal Exchange: a beautiful and imposing building, we all know it is there in Bank, but how many of you know that inside is the Grand Café and that upstairs, there is Sauterelle? You don’t? Well you should. Last week The Handbook went for a little supper at Sauterelle. Our table looked out over the Grand Café below with its marbled floor and huge ceilings which is perfect for people watching and general spying on the diners below, which between our courses we did a lot. Sauterelle itself is a little more closed with low, warm lighting and small […]

Greyhound on the Test Hotel Review

On Friday afternoon we headed west out of London and soon enough we found ourselves in the quaint city of Salisbury in Hampshire where the Greyhound on the Test is situated. The Greyhound on the Test is a hotel, restaurant and pub offering guests a peaceful respite in the tranquil surroundings of the Hampshire countryside. The rooms, of which there are only 7, are all decorated sweetly and in theme with the cottage like feel to the building. Don’t let the décor fool you though as all of the rooms have modern facilities like en suite baths/showers, flat screens with […]

The Meat Co

After a mesmerising walk from the Car Park below Westfield shopping centre out on to the Restaurants South Terrace, it took a few wrong turns until we found the bright red awning ‘The Meat and Wine Company’. As I entered the large, spacious downstairs bar, it rather reminded me of a big East-African hotel lobby. However, as I gazed around, the orangey, mud and red coloured walls in this mellow lit room were decorated in subtle but classy mask like African decor. We were welcomed by smiley staff who guided us upstairs to the restaurant, lift or stairs – we […]

The Handbook Reviews Parlour

Having been invited to go and review Parlour in Kensal Rise, I readily accepted and as always checked out the menu before we arrived. I was intrigued by the Cow Pie, it sounded like the sort of meal that would pack a punch both in flavour and size and since I am already heading into the autumn/winter comfort food zone I was hoping it would still be on the menu. Luckily it was on the menu, but if you think that is all we ate you would be very wrong. We were on a culinary journey, all I can say […]
