We Review: Santa Maria Fitzrovia

What? The award-winning pizzeria, that started life off in a teeny tiny site in Ealing, has now made it to the magic number with the launch of their third restaurant, Santa Maria Fitzrovia. New? Brand, spanking, can still smell the paint, new. Following on from a two-week soft launch, they officially opened on Valentine’s Day. Wise move, seeing as for most of us, pizza is our true bae. Where? For their third site they’ve chosen their most central location, New Cavendish Street: Santa Maria, 160 New Cavendish Street, Fitzrovia, W1W 6YR www.santamariapizzeria.com The Look: Taking its inspiration from the Italian […]

We Review: Dirty Bones

What: A dark den, and brunch menu to cure all hangovers however horrendous and seemingly terminal. New: Dirty Bones Kensington has been up in running since 2013 and the chain has been thriving ever since. Why? Because we just can’t get enough of their delicious comfort food, banging old school tunes and NYC vibe. Though the establishment may not be new the bottomless brunch menu is, and it was our job to put it through its paces. Where: 20 Kensington Church Street, London, W8 4EP. www.dirty-bones.com The Look: We descended the steps carefully, into the growing darkness, and were seated […]

We Review: The Coal Shed

What: The Coal Shed; dedicated to cooking the finest meat and seafood… over fire. New: The restaurant itself is well established, but the menu we were sampling is part of the restaurant’s new series of chef collaborations. Throughout the year the restaurant will be opening its kitchen to an array of celebrated chefs. On the night of our visit we were at the mercy (and supreme talents) of Michael Bremner, owner and Head Chef at the award winning 64 Degrees in Brighton. Where: On the bank of the river Thames and in the heart of The City of London and […]

We Review: Brunch at Coal Rooms

What? Winning over my heart last year as one of my favourite restaurants, I returned to Peckham to visit Coal Rooms again and this time it was to stuff myself silly with bacon sandwiches and eggs. New? It opened last summer, but the brunch is new and as we know everyone loves brunch, especially a new brunch so I had to check it out. Served on a Saturday from 11am, this is a brunch for those who like a lie in.  Where? Right next to Peckham Station, Coal Room has made its home in the Grade II former ticket office which was […]

We Review: The Cheese Bar

What: The name does a pretty good job at summing what you can expect from The Cheese Bar; it’s a lot of cheese. Get it from all countries in all forms, from raw chunks to gooey deliciousness. There’s no body shaming here, however it comes served is beautiful in our eyes. New? Just shy of its 1-year anniversary, The Cheese Bar opened at the end of March 2017 after a successful crowdfunding campaign, (reaching his funding target of £130,000 in just 5 days). Where? Unit 93, North Yard, Camden Market, NW1 8AP www.thecheesebar.com On the menu: Cheese. A lot of cheese. […]

We Review: Darcie and May Green

What: Two funky coloured, barges housing Darcie & May Green, designed by legendary British pop artist, Peter Blake. New? Darcie & May Green is the latest restaurant from the Daisy Green group after opening in November 2017. Where? Grand Union Canal, Sheldon Square, Paddington Central W2 6DS www.daisygreenfood.com On the menu: The menu is Antipodean-inspired with a fabulous brunch menu making us envious of visiting for dinner with options like coconut French toast with thick Greek yogurt, raspberries, mango, shaved coconut, bee pollen and pure maple syrup, and broccoli and corn fritters with avocado, poached eggs, spinach and house chilli pesto. We Review: Sticks N Sushi

What? Just as Ronseal does exactly what it says on the tin, Sticks N Sushi, does exactly as the name suggests, it serves yakitori sticks and sushi. Finding ourselves free on a rainy Saturday afternoon and with a new Sticks N Sushi having recently opened in Nova, we took the good, old, (slow), District Line over to Victoria. New? Opening in London for the first time in 2012, they started in Wimbledon and have gone on to open restaurants in Oxford, Cambridge, Covent Garden, Canary Wharf and Greenwich. This latest restaurant opened at the end of last year.  Where? Part of Nova, […]

We Review: Theo Randall at the InterContinental

What: Counting Jamie Oliver as a fan (see his praise splashed across Theo’s website and books) and Jay Rayner who claims Theo Randall served him “the best meal” he had “all year”, I was admittedly looking forward to eating at Theo Randall at the InterContinental and it did not disappoint. New? This is Theo Randall’s first restaurant which he opened in November 2006, his latest restaurant is Theo’s Simple Italian. Where? InterContinental, 1 Hamilton Place, Mayfair, W1J 7QY www.theorandall.com On the menu: Theo Randall’s menu reflects his personal taste for food so the menu is Italian cuisine done in an unfussy […]

We Review: The Coral Room

What: Already home to the much loved (and much Instagrammed), Dalloway Terrace and the hidden treasure (and one of my all-time favourites) Bloomsbury Club Bar, The Bloomsbury has added The Coral Room to its collection of brilliant bars. Where: The Coral Room 16-22 Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury, WC1B 3NN, www.thecoralroom.co.uk On the Menu: Open for breakfast and then for small plates throughout the day, you can host your breakfast meeting over spiced, baked eggs with turmeric yoghurt; curl up with a book and a bacon sandwich on toasted sourdough; lunch on […]

We Review: Gillray’s Vegan Menu

What: Breaking news – Waterloo-based steakhouse, Gillray’s, has gone vegan! Well not entirely, but they do now have a three-course vegan set menu which is a first for the restaurant and therefore a big deal. They have a fair amount of vegetarian options on their a la carte menu but have now gone the whole hog (excuse the pun) with the new vegan dishes. New? New year, new menu. Head chef, Jamie Welch, created the vegan menu just in time for Veganuary and will as such only be available throughout January 2018. Where? London County Hall, Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7PB […]

We Review: The Waldorf Hilton’s Charleston Tea Dance

What? A Sunday afternoon spent in swinging skirts, learning the Charleston, sipping on Champagne and scoffing down scones (like a lady). New? Far from it. The Waldorf Hilton Tea Dances have been going on for thirty years, and some of their patrons who have been there from the very beginning are still turning up to, ditch their zimmer frames and put on their dancing shoes. Where? At The Waldorf Hilton, Aldwych, WC2B 4DD, www.hilton.com The Look: The tea dance takes place in the Palm Court, a core feature of the hotel ever since it opened back in 1908. The room is bright […]
