That time of year is fast approaching. By that time of year, I am alluding to V Day, the big Valentines. The one day of the year when everyone is expected to be on a date. If you’re not in a relationship / marriage / convent and haven’t started cuffing then you need to get on that ASAP in order to find the one (or someone) for V Day. Once they are well and truly cuffed, you then need to work out where you’re going to go. That’s where we come in. We have devised the ultimate guide of date […]
Queen Elizabeth this year will celebrate her 90th birthday, a remarkable feat that will unite the nation with bunting and copious amounts of Coronation chicken. Her Majesty isn’t the only British icon celebrating a grand milestone in 2016; British Vogue is celebrating 100 years since September 15th 1916, when the first issue was published. In honour of this, a major exhibition, Vogue 100: A Century of Style, will run at the National Portrait Gallery from 11th February until 22nd May showcasing over 280 fashion and beauty portraits from Vogue-approved photographers including Cecil Beaton, Nick Knight, Irving Penn and Mario Testino. […]
What did you do for your second birthday? Can you even remember your second birthday more like? We’ll hazard a guess at pass the parcel, too much sugar and tantrums. It definitely wasn’t like Dirty Bones Kensington 2nd birthday which is coming up, that’s for sure. Happening this Thursday they are celebrating two years of cocktails, American comfort food and tunes with The Dirty Double birthday party. The night will start with a present from them to you, in form of a complimentary ‘Forgot to blow out the candles’ birthday cocktail followed by new dishes. Start with beef short rib […]
A few hundred metres from the huge cinema in Leicester Square lies a cinema much more low-key… and much more luxurious. Battle your way through the tourists and up the regal steps of The Courthouse Hotel. You may have heard of their calming Sanook Spa (we reviewed it back in October) and their wintery Soho Ski Terrace but we’ll be impressed if you know about their state of the art cinema room. Newly refurbished, the cinema boasts leather seats and tactile suede walls and cult classics shown every Saturday evening – Chicago, The Breakfast Club and Breakfast at Tiffany’s are […]
If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to try something different then we have just the ticket. It’s nothing you have to train for, nothing you have to save for and nothing which might scare you – so really no excuses. All it is, is trying out a luxury cinema instead of your usual big screen and where better to start than the Charlotte Street Hotel Film Club? Their private screening features a state of the art screen, seats 75 and you can guarantee there won’t be that stale popcorn smell – bonus. The Film Club runs on Fridays […]
Once upon a time there was a bride to be, who wasn’t afraid to admit that she wanted a fairy tale wedding. She knew all eyes were going to be on her and she wanted to be the most beautiful, elegant bride that the kingdom London had ever seen. She wanted her wedding to be like something from Instagram, she wanted her Pinterest boards to become a reality. She had to have breath-taking designs and exceptional service. So she went to the Four Seasons on Park Lane because she heard that luxury event planners Scarlet Events were hosting a one-off luxury wedding […]
Forget cosy, wood panelled pubs and trendy, cosmopolitan wine bars. This winter, the place to curl up with a nice hot toddy is, believe it or not, the library. No longer the preserve of bookish geeks, pottering pensioners and panicky students, more and more of London’s prestigious hotels and bars are opening swanky, book-filled watering holes, allowing visitors to partake in some seriously scholarly drinking.
Parsons Green; that little hamlet just east of Fulham as it was described by the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales in 1870 (which was the topographical dictionary of the day don’t you know?), maybe somewhat overlooked, given that it is sandwiched between Putney, Fulham and Wandsworth. But overlook it and you’d be missing out on some fine establishments; check out our guide on how to live like a local and make the most of Parsons Green.
We all know January is the bleakest month of the year: we’ve spent too much, we’ve eaten too much and we’ve definitely had too much to drink and now we’re meant to be all positive about resolutions and trying to change for the better whilst it’s cold and miserable outside. Joy. It’s a time to hibernate inside and eat comforting food and what can be more comforting than porridge? It’s good for you, it’s hot and soon you’ll be able to get it at Darwin Brasserie, on the 36th floor of the Sky Garden as throughout January they’ll have a […]
It seems as though Pop Brixton have been listening to us moaning about having to think up an original New Year’s resolution, and no ‘eat healthier’, ‘drink less’ and ‘lose weight/get fit’ don’t count. One that is slightly more original is ‘learn something new’ – focus on gaining rather than losing. Goodbye Dry January, hello Try January… Community focused Pop Brixton was set up as a way to bring the community together and give local and independent businesses a chance to get their work seen by like-minded people. In December it transformed into an alternative Christmas market but the fairy […]
We’ve already done guides to the best places to head for New Year’s Eve feasts and parties but if you’re still stuck for ideas then here’s another to consider… The Piano Works in Farringdon is the place for civilised live music and a late night – normally the two don’t mix so well but here they do, and not only that but an ensemble of two grand pianos, drums, guitar, horn and backing singers perform nothing but songs requested by the audience, all night long. A refreshing change from DJs who glare as you request Justin Bieber for the forth […]
