Ho Ho Ho, Where Are You Gonna Go This Weekend
Is this really the last weekend before the last weekend before Christmas? We’re in the home stretch, the schools are finishing up, the sales are starting and the Christmassy adverts are literally everywhere. But you’ve got to get through another couple weekends, so head down and let’s make sure they’re good, so heres some ideas…
M Threadneedle Street
Sheer hypocrisy from Father Christmas here; the man who makes a list of who’s nice or not will be hosting a Naughty Santa Party Brunch, and it’s going to be riotous. The event, held at M Restaurants, includes bottomless food, Champagne, cocktails and ‘festive fun’. Anyone who turns up dressed as actual Santa gets extra shots. In fact, shots seem to play quite a role in this extravaganza, and along with candy cane shots there’ll be alcoholic lollipops. Of course the food will be the high quality you’d only expect from M, including Argentine Rump Stead with a fried duck egg, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, waffles and maple butter or Confit Duck with brioche soldiers, duck eggs and hollandaise. Add a little extra dosh in and you can upgrade to Lobster Truffle Mac and Cheese.
Every Saturday until Saturday 22nd December
Where: 2 & 3 Threadneedle Walk, 60 Threadneedle Street, The City, EC2R 8HP
The Langham, London
Oxford Circus (0.3 miles)
Are you up the alps, in a French village about to hit the slopes? No, you’re in the courtyard over at The Langham. The hotel are playing host to premium vodka brand Grey Goose who have come up with a taste of French opulence, complete with log fire and giving guests the chance to sip on hot and cold Grey Goose cocktails underneath a Christmas tree adorned with lights or get cosy under blankets in the chic rustic hideaways. Aww.
Where: 1c Portland Place, Regent Street, London, W1B 1JA, United Kingdom
For ten months a year the word lodge is sadly underused; you lodge a complaint, a lodger burns down your maisonette or the gynaecology has to remove something that’s lodged in a cavity. But for two glorious months a year the lodge is restored to its rightful place, a sort of B&Q hut that Father Christmas lives in. And down at Eccleston Yards, a reindeer’s throw from Victoria Station. The independent retail hub have launched The Christmas Lodge, an installation featuring neon sign-making, and its more boring cousin festive wreath-making, cooking and craft sessions (we’ll grudgingly acknowledge that the pun is one of our favourites) Crafternoons with Mrs Claus, plus a christmas tree market, in case you’re Scrouge enough not to have gotten one yet.
All weekend and until Friday 21st
Where: 21 Eccleston Place, Belgravia, SW1X

Mews of Mayfair's 18th Century courtyard
Stepping inside Lancashire Court this December and January, you will be transported to a picture perfect winter wonderland. Mews of Mayfair’s 18th Century courtyard, offers winter alfresco drinking at its finest, with no fear of a chill. In collaboration with Veuve Clicquot, Mews is unveiling their pop-up courtyard bar for the very first time, serving mulled wine and festive fizz. Click here for menus.
Where: 10-11 Lancashire Ct, Mayfair, London W1S 1EY
Pergola, the venue not the washing line, have converted their Olympia site with its views across the London skyline into a Christmassy nook with live DJs playing Thursday ‘thru’ Saturday, serving drinks from their massive bar and going as festive as possible on the food front thanks to Patty & Bun, Passo and CLAW.
Thursday 13th – Saturday 15th December
Where: Level Five Rooftop, Olympia Car Park, Olympia Way, Kensington, W14 8UX
Refettorio Felix, St Cuthberts
Alyn Williams at The Westbury is one of Mayfair’s (nay, London’s) best restaurants (I went there recently, it was splendid, watch this space for the review), but now it’s going on the road, as Williams joins forces with fellow chefs from Holborn Dining Room, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Café Murano, Duck & Waffle, Bonhams and Outlaw at the Capital for a big charity dinner in aid of mental health. Along with a talk by Amanda Street from the Shaw Mind Foundation and live music by Harry Marshall, the event will take place at Refettorio Felix, St Cuthberts.
Sunday 16th December
Where: 51 Philbeach Gardens, Kensington, SW5 9EB
IBikeLondon, Santa Ride
Presumably in a green energy push (think of the North Pole deforestation required to create grazing ground for those Reindeer, better to slaughter and eat the lot), Father Christmas has opted for two wheels and pedal power this weekend for the Santa Bike Ride. The ‘fun and leisurely’ ride around London, accompanied by disco bikes blasting out Christmas classics and more cycling Santas than could fit in a Lapland village. Suitable for all abilities, it’s a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
Saturday 15th December
Where: Meet at BFI South Bank, Belvedere Road, SE1 8XT
Website: Check out details here...
If you like your music like you like your raclette, and if you like your fingers in constant danger of being sliced off while you dance, then Club Fromage’s arrival at Ally Pally this weekend will be right up your street. The home of cheesey music going cool so cool that it’s sub zero, so don your skates and let the hits roll (or slide or slice or whatever).
Saturday 15th December
Where: Alexandra Palace Way, Muswell Hill, N22 7AY
Shepherd's Bush Market (0.3 miles)
Nice to see you, to see you nice! We’re going mad for Brucey! Oh, wait, no, not the recently passed national treasure, but Bruce Springsteen! Hungry Heart, from the same people that brought you Burgers & Bruce as well as Pizza Pilgrims is a night for Springsteen fans to gather and celebrate ‘The Boss’ and this weekend it’s a Christmas special over in Hammersmith. Recreating the feel of an actual Springsteen concert, all that’s missing is Monica off of Friends being dragged onto the stage…
Friday 14th December
Where: 310 Uxbridge Road, London, W12 7LJ, United Kingdom
Somerset House, the home of the London skating rink (unless you include the actual Thames, which used to freeze most winters), is open again in the Edmond J. Safra Fountain courtyard. And it’s not just the enormous skating rink you have to look forward to, enjoy the Fortnum’s Lodge pop-up as well this winter. And if Somerset house doesn’t float your boat (bit stuffy? Bit central? Bit totally booked up?), then head out east to Wapping’s Tobacco Dock for rooftop skating. Not a massive rink, like at Somerset House, but comes with activities and hot toddies at Skylight.
Open all winter
Where: Strand, London, WC2R 1LA, United Kingdom
