If you thought that Mayfair was already bristling with luxury hotels and surely we’d hit peak posh, then think again. Proving that you can never reach over-saturation when it comes to marble bathrooms and penthouse suites Grosvenor Square is looking forward to the arrival of The Twenty Two.

Arguably well endowed in the hotel department, the square is already host to the Biltmore, a Marriot and the forthcoming Rosewood which will sit in the old US Embassy, it wasn’t immediately obvious that a 42,500 square foot hotel within spitting distance of some of London’s best hostelries was exactly what was needed. Within sight of Claridges and earshot of The Connaught and Dorchester, the competition was always going to be tough, but if they build them we’ll definitely come.

The hotel, at 22 Grosvenor Square, has been dubbed The Twenty Two, presumably so you don’t accidentally go to twenty three, which confusingly is actually the same building, so by rights they should’ve probably called it Twenty Two & Twenty Three, or just come up with a proper name like everyone else. And it will sit at the boutiquier end of the scale, with just 31 bedrooms and suites.

Dubbed The Twenty Two, presumably so you don't accidentally go to twenty three...

It’s the creation of Navid Mirtorabi, who used to own Blakes in South Kensington and is a well known entrepreneur and tech investor. The hotel, on the corner of Upper Brook Street and Grosvenor Square, will feature an all-day restaurant and a private members’ club.

The grand Grade II-listed mansion will include four bars and a restaurant with a Mediterranean flavour. The food will be overseen by Executive Chef Alan Christie while former Mark’s Club director and the part of the Chiltern Firehouse launch team, Darius Namdar, will take on the role of managing director.

The interiors will be rich and luxurious, with textured fabrics, bespoke wallpapers and embroidered silks, the work of designer Natalia Miyar, her first foray into hotel design.

And alongside the hotel there will be a brand new private members’ club, another addition to London’s already busy club scene.

The location is amazing, the team sound impressive and credible and the building will be one of the most stunning in Mayfair. All that’s left is to complete the build and open the doors, which is scheduled for the start of 2022.
