Kricket And Brixton Reunited: The Must Visit Indian Heads Home

The sun’s out, blue sky and the smell of mown grass! Time for some Kricket? No, not the endlessly dull summer sport, but the Indian restaurant phenomenon. Kricket, feted for its casual and creative Indian food served out of their Soho flagship restaurant, will be opening in Brixton this May. In a tremendous homecoming, Kricket will return to Brixton as ‘boy done good’. The restaurant was born in POP Brixton back in 2015, went to Soho to seek its fortune, and now, hot on the heels of an opening at the prestigious Television Centre, will be opening back on home-turf in […]

Tooting’s Terrific New Taiwanese

Bao down to the new king of Tooting – Taiwanese bao joint Daddy Bao has arrived. Frank Yeung is the genius behind Peckham’s Mr Bao. The Taiwanese restaurant has been cooking up their signature bao buns since 2016 when Yeung, with the help of his father Joe who retired from his own successful restaurant business last year. His second location, Daddy Bao in Tooting is named in his honour. Tooting has certainly come-of-age over the last few years as something of a food lover’s mecca and the Mitcham Road spot will give Daddy Bao a chance to shine. And shine […]

Wildflower Canteen Comes to Peckham

Wildflower is coming to the Peckham levels, this however is more much more than just a mere flower growing in the wild, it is not some type of innovative garden centre either. It is in fact a new restaurant, a vegan and vegetarian one at that. Cue all the surprised and delighted faces looking up from Instagram newsfeeds. Wildflower is the latest venture from Parched London, an independent hospitality group who first made their home in Peckham before taking on The Montpelier in 2010. Now they have taken over an unused multi-story car park and have turned the space into […]

A Taste Of South Africa In Peckham

Nelson Mandella House might have been the home of Delboy and Rodney, but it’s about the only thing that Peckham and South Africa have in common. Until now, and new restaurant Kudu aims to change all that. The 46-cover restaurant is named after Kudu Bread, which is cooked in a copper pot and served with melted lardon or seafood butter. It will obviously be centre-stage, but will share the limelight with other South African classics including mussel potjie pots, which are served with seaweed gnocchi, pig’s head tortellini with hay bone broth and crispy onions and onion and beer tarte […]

Coal Rooms: A Restaurant in a Ticket Office

A ticket office might not seem like the most usual place for a restaurant, you’d think it’d be better as a ticket office but as we use less ticket offices and eat out more, maybe it isn’t such a bad idea. Peckham-based entrepreneurs, Richard Robinson and Cemal Ezel, certainly think so as next month they are doing just that as they open Coal Rooms. Taking over the beautifully restored former Grade II listed ticket office which was originally part of Peckham Rye’s train station in the 1930s, Coal Rooms will be home to: a 24-seater café which transforms into a […]

New to Clapham Common: Minnow

Chris Frichot and Saba Tsegaye are well aware how big the London restaurant scene is, and how tough it can be, which is why they’ve called their restaurant, Minnow – because they’re going to ‘be a small, but fiercely independent fish in a big pond’. Opening this Wednesday on Clapham Common, the neighbourhood restaurant will be serving up modern European dishes, plenty of cocktails and brunch at the weekend. Heading up the kitchen will be Jake Boyce (former Head Chef of Jason Atherton’s Social Wine and Tapas) he’ll be giving a nod to the flavours of the Indian Ocean where […]

Made of Dough Opens in Peckham

We always like to hear when a pop-up is going permanent, especially when that pop-up is Made of Dough, one of London’s pizza champions. They’ve spent the last couple of years touring the country, cooking over 100,000 pizzas in the back of a Land Rover and now they are settling down in south east London. Yep, from next month you’ll be able to find Made of Dough on Bellenden Road in Peckham. With space for fifty covers, the pizzeria will feature a chef’s table, cocktail bar and of course an open wood fire. And it’s here that the pizzas will […]
