When I think of London rooftop bars, my mind immediately flashes to nights out at Skylight. It’s become a London institute, the ultimate place to spend evenings drinking cocktails, playing garden games and looking over London’s legendary illuminated skyline. Come winter time and it’s transformed into a Christmassy haven, lined with igloos, Apres Ski lodge bars and alpine interiors. Yes, it might be a little out of the way in Tobacco Dock, but you can always guarantee a good time.
Luckily for rooftop lovers, this month sees the iconic bar open up a second venue in Peckham, offering another place to get their skyline fix in the city.
Skylight Peckham, opening 19th August, will be amongst this summer’s hottest openings and will bring with it all its favourites from its sister venue to South East London: outdoor brunching, endless cocktail options and sweeping views across London.
Taking over the top floor of Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, the space boasts capacity for 250. On the interior front, expect pops of pastel colours, plants, and a zinc topped bar, as well as natural marble across both the restaurant and bar, and wraparound terrace.
Expect outdoor brunching, endless cocktail options and sweeping views across London.
By day, Skylight Peckham invites you to enjoy light lunches, sharing platters and weekend brunch favourites. Menu highlights include Burrata with tropea onions, smoked aubergine and pepper with toasted sourdough and n’duja; Roast beef on sourdough toast, marmite mayo, pickled shallots, watercress and horseradish; and Roasted poussin, chicken fat mash, truffle and honey vinaigrette and charred leeks.
But by night, the venue really comes into its own with the buzzy terrace offering up the perfect spot for date-night cocktails, evening dinners and post-work drinks. In house mixologist Sebastian Hollingworth has mixed up a cocktail menu to die for.
Signature serves include Clarified Bee’s Knees, a blend of Belvedere Vodka, lemon and local Peckham honey served martini-style and garnished with lemon bees’ wings; South London Iced Tea, a heady twist on Long Island made with Hennessy and cranberry juice; and Cinco Picante, a mix of tequila and Cointreau with homemade chilli liqueur infused with spices and sweetened with peach.
After non-stop closures, restrictions and lockdowns over the past 18 months, Skylight Peckham hopes to offer a space to unwind and reconnect with friends, family and work colleagues. We can’t wait to check it out.
Skylight Peckham is due to open on 19th August.
