They say three is the magic number, but we’re going to say forget three, it’s four that you want. Why? Because this week has seen the opening of the fourth Foxlow, from Will Beckett and Huw Gott the owners of Hawksmoor.
Following on from Stoke Newington, Chiswick and Clerkenwell this 100-cover restaurant on Bedford Hill will also feature a separate bar downstairs, called The Owl – which will be open until 1am at the weekends for all of us owls’ late night antics.
Focusing around the charcoal grill the restaurant will serve up brunch, Sunday roast, steaks, slow-smoked meat, salads and vegetarian options. Steaks will come from the native breed cattle reared by the multi award winning The Ginger Pig, sustainable seafood will come straight from Brixham each morning, they’ll be Graceburn cheese, sourdough from the Little Bread Peddler, herb-fed Yorkshire Ross chickens and charcuterie from Cobble Lane in Islington. Quite the feast.
Dishes include ten hour beef shortrib with kimchi; Brixham hake with romesco; ricotta dumplings with girolles and Foxlow fried chicken. The Sunday roast is all about Longhorn beef with all the trimmings whilst for those suffering from hangovers or celebrating the weekend then brunch will include fried chicken with eggs and croissant waffles and steak, eggs and green harissa. Or maybe you’ll go for Moroccan eggs with sobrasada toast and anari ricotta and London honey. They’ll also be a new dish a tribute to Will and Huw’s childhood guilty pleasures, sausage and egg muffins.
Macaulay Sinclair have designed the restaurant which will use vintage materials including reclaimed floor boards from a notable theatre school which will clad the bar, whilst pendant lights will hang above from the 50s German designer Wilhem Wagenfeld. 1950s furniture will fill the restaurant whilst vintage prints, posters and maps will adorn the walls. Downstairs The Owl will be more intimate with black leather banquettes, bricks from the London Underground and the walls will be clad in maple. New cocktails will include the Dr. Grey – blended Scotch, peated Scotch, lemon, ginger and bergamot; The Ultimate Gimlet Hepple Gin, cardamom and pimped-up lime cordial and Hawksmoor’s legendary Shaky Pete’s ginger brew – gin, ginger, lemon and London Pride.
So what are your plans this weekend? That’s right, got it in one: visiting Foxlow.
