Two years ago, a disused building in Hackney that was once a laundrette was given a new lease of life, with less of the clothes and soap suds and more of the food – there’d still be washing, but it would be of plates and pots. It became Wringer & Mangle and is now known for a different kind of bubbles, no longer soap, it serves a rather good bottomless brunch with plenty of prosecco. Anyway, why are we telling you this? Because now they are opening a site over on Middlesex Street – still no laundry though…
Set across two floors, upstairs is dedicated to all-day dining, you’ll find a deli counter where you can grab lunch to go including salads, sandwiches and pastries. In the evening, you’ll find dishes such as: braised beef cheeks with celeriac puree and red cabbage; roasted partridge with lentils, smoked mash, cumin carrots and green sauce; seared scallops and black pudding with bacon jam and cider vinegar dressing and for pudding, thin apple and chamomile honey tart and herb ice cream and red and black fruits with elderflower curd and chia granola.
At the weekend, the infamous brunch is back (which of course you can go bottomless with) it’ll feature sweet potato hash, spinach and poached eggs; smoked haddock kedgeree and barbecue baked beans, fried eggs and pulled ham hock. Sundays will of course be all about roasts and as a side you can get pigs in blanket…
Downstairs will be where the party happens. Thursday and Saturday nights will be looked after by London party people Percolate, expect a mix of up and coming DJ’s and live music. Fridays will see it turn into Gloria’s house, you’ll find wild drag queens, wonderful cocktails and like any house party – a little bit of madness.
Bringing together retro adverts, mismatched tables, industrial elements and Chesterfields, the looks is a mix of classic and contemporary, both sitting room and warehouse vibes. Victorian lamps and wingback chairs will be joined by local photography and art and an indoor living plant wall.

A bit of a cake connoisseur, Editor, Emily is constantly on the search for the best brownie London has to offer, a restaurant once even put them on the menu when they heard she was visiting… You’ll either find her on a night out or debriefing over brunch the next day with plenty of coffee and eggs.
