One day we will travel the length of every tube line and, when we do, we’ll start with the Victoria line – mainly because it is the shortest but also because at one end is Walthamstow, soon to be home to the award-winning Yard Sale Pizza and if anything is going to get us on the tube for longer than necessary then it’s going to be pizza.
It’s the third opening for the Yard Sale team, who already have ventures in Clapton and Finsbury Park and once again it’s all about that double fermented dough. You’ll want to try The Holy Pepperoni with Cobble Lane pepperoni, Napoli picante and crumbled Nduja sausage. Definitely order the TSB with tender stem broccoli, parmesan, pine nuts, garlic and olive oil, for us though it has to be all about the Cheesus Walks – with smoked cacetto, gorgonzola, mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan and walnut pesto. Add to them their infamous cheese and marmite garlic bread, homemade dips and salads, Nonna’s gelato, local London beers and Borough Wines and you have yourself one sweet meal (and probably indigestion). They’re also the first Yard Sale to have a weekend brunch which includes crisp garlic, rosemary and sea salted pizza bread with a dippy egg – order whilst you wait for your pizza.
Taking up residency in an old stained-glass window workshop on Walthamstow’s Hoe Street, they’re keeping the building’s original brickwork and windows but adding in booths at the back and stool seats at the front. They’ll also have their own outdoor ‘yard’ with tables, which is a first since it started out in Johnnie’s back yard in 2013.
Time to get on the Victoria line…
