There are 67 wine producing nations in the world, but the one place you need to go to, is Soho’s 68 & Boston. Brought to you by Eric Yu of The Breakfast Group (Opium and The Social), Martin Malley co-owner of Planet of the Grapes and Luca Cordiglieri the former bar manager at China Tang at The Dorchester, 68 & Boston will feature a wine bar downstairs and a cocktail bar upstairs.
The wine bar is called 68 because the bottles are all priced at £20 so you won’t be stuck with the price tag dilemma meaning that you can experience all the wines, going that little bit further than the 67 wine producing nations – see what they did there? It also means that you can probably expect a Saturday morning hangover because you can drink all the wine, sorry. There is space for 160 guests but there will also be two bookable arches for 12-20 of your friends. Interior wise, they’ve gone for the café culture of Paris, so you’ll find plenty of silver trays, ironmongery and pavement tables, there is also a nod to the Waiter’s Race that finishes in Greek Street.
Upstairs the mood is more suave, more late night, with Luca Cordiglieri presiding over the cocktails. There will be Manhattans, Negronis and more unusual wine-based cocktails. You’ll want to get the best seat in the house, which is at the bar where you’ll be able to watch the waiters (dressed in white tuxedos) shaking up the cocktails and feast on the bar menu which will include charcuterie. Designed by Kay Design, the interiors will have a Midnight in Paris feel to them, taking guests through post-war Britain and 50’s Soho. The private room upstairs will have space for 25 guests and will celebrate Soho’s showgirls with tassels and plush velvet. Retro print lining and tobacco smoked leather will be their ode to the jazz makers and beat writers. In the cellar you’ll find arched booths featuring more retro prints and geometry designs which have been influenced by Soho’s party nature.
So it’s Friday, where are you going tonight?
