Fancy taking a little cruise whilst you have your supper? Drifting up London’s canal as you sip on cocktails, English sparkling wine and eat a menu of seafood? Sounds dreamy.
Tomorrow the London Shell Co. is opening their first permanent restaurant on the fully refurbished Price Regent Canal boat. Permanently docked on the Regent’s Canal at Paddington, the menu will be focusing on ethically sourced, local, high quality seafood using the oldest and under rated preparation and cooking methods.
Lunches will be served whilst the boat is docked and dishes include the likes of smoked sprats with horseradish, beetroot and sourdough; blood cake with queen scallops and pea puree and salted honey, parfait, figs and pistachio.
In the evening, they’ll be cruising along the canal for two and a half hours from Regent’s Canal to Camden Lock and back again. Bacon with cockles and laver bread; smoked cod’s rose and burnt leaks on toast; home cured Scottish salmon with grapefruit, lime and orange and Morecambe Bay Oysters will be the order of the evening with plenty of cocktails and English sparkling wine.
Chosen by co-founder Harry Lobek and friends, the drinks list will include: Burrow Hill Cider, monthly changing wines including sweet, fortified and dessert wines, English sparkling wine from Hattingley Valley, Hush Heath and five London-focused cocktails. Made from sherries, fortifieds and British vermouths you can expect to find the likes of Mr Kershaw’s Best of British. Created by Sam Kershaw aka bartender extraordinaire from the South West it’s a mix of Tarquins Dry Gin, Kingston Black Aperitif, apple Eaux de vie Cherry Juice and dandelion and burdock bitters. Others include The London Negroni with all spirits sourced within the M25 and the rum based Simcoe Black. They’re the sort of straight talking cocktails that’ll take the edge off the day.
Unlike anything else happening at the moment, London Shell Co. is definitely one to check out.
