Ah the humble meatball, most likely to remind you of trips to Ikea, grizzly bits of round meat bobbing in a tin of tomato sauce and school meals. It’s time for new balls please (there is our nod to the tennis taking place at Queen’s Club at the moment, 2 birds, 1 stone) and soon we will have with the aptly named Balls and Company, Soho’s first gourmet meatball restaurant.

Wanting to bring a bit of class to the carnivorous food scene going on at the moment in London, Australian chef and owner, Bonny Porter will be serving up five varieties of meat ball including Wagyu beef, confit salmon and the vegetarian option of quinoa, beetroot and feta. Diners will then choose a sauce to go with the meatballs, choices range from tomato to the more adventurous romesco with red pepper, almonds, hazelnut and garlic.

Alongside the meatballs will be meat sliders including Wagyu, tomato jam, gruyere and pickles and chicken with sugo ricotta béchamel and aubergine. Side dishes will be seasonal and as well as chips they’ll be mac and cheese or fennel and fontina arancini. Finish with Persian fairy floss topped brownies, don’t know what Persian fairy floss is (we don’t blame you) but basically it’s super delicious and fine candy floss.

The restaurant is split across two floors; the ground floor will be exclusively for dining whilst downstairs will be a little more intimate with a bar and dining – the bar will be serving up cocktails, beer, and white, red and rose sangria – hello summer after work drinking.

M & H Designs are looking after the interior and they’re bringing the relaxed vibes of Australia to Soho with natural light being complimented by greenery and glints of copper.

So long Ikea, there’s a new ball in town.
