City stalwart, Boisdale of Bishopsgate opened over a decade ago and the establishment reflects the eclectic and idiosyncratic atmosphere of its sister restaurant in Belgravia with those signature end of Empire style interiors – think dark reds and greens and an extensive collection of paintings and objets d’art – providing a clubbable environment with that inimitable tartan twist.
Now, however, in response to our growing love affair with posh fast food, Boisdale of Bishopsgate has launched its brand new Burger & Oyster bar. Diners choose between fillings of Aberdeen Angus beef prime rib, Wild Highland venison and Fillet and bone marrow dry aged and then elect for one of seven different ways courtesy of head chef Neil Churchill (1 Lombard Street and The Great Eastern Dining Rooms).
We’re talking everything from Classic – with lemon tarragon mayo, dill pickles, red onions and beef tomatoes and Inferno – with smoked tomato, corn and naga chilli relish, hass avocado, jalapenos and coriander to Gourmet Truffle – melted taleggio cheese, black truffle, roasted field mushrooms, duck egg and grelot onion mayo and Surf & Turf – pulled lobster, three tempura pop boy oysters, spiced chilli and red pepper mayo.
But don’t worry if you have trouble deciding because you can always go for the Burger Sliders – mini burgers whereby you can choose three of your favourite toppings. Oysters come singly or by the half dozen – Jersey Rock, Dorset Rock, Lindisfarne and Po Boy tempura oyster with a soy, chilli, and lime dipping sauce for the more exotically inclined.
Even the sides are something special as along with the expected chips and rocket or heritage tomato salads you’ll also find Maple glazed bacon rashers, Vintage Quick’s cheddar and truffle oil and Beer battered onion rings. Now it’s time to savour a little something from the 170 selection of malt whiskies and 110 odd Havana cigars…
