New wine bar, BOTTLES is what happens when, in the words of the Spice Girls, ‘two become one’. The Italian wine bar is from the co-founders of Bottles & Battles in Mercato Metropolitano and pop-up restaurant concept SOOD Family and it is opening in Old Spitalfields Market tomorrow.
Franco Mancini and Daniele Marano, owners of Bottles & Battles want to create a wine bar which is friendly, unpretentious and not ruled by wine snobs. The focus will be on quality wines made by independent producers and small farms and they’ll showcase regional and indigenous varieties and grapes that are often forgotten. Whilst most of the 180 labels will be Italian wines, there will be some international offerings and a small but strong selection of fine wines.
After a year-long residency at Kitchens of Old Spitalfields Market, SOOD Kitchen will be making Bottles their home. Michele Pompili (Chiltern Firehouse), Carlo Deho’ and Nadine Martins Verissimo (Taberna do Mercado) have created a menu where each dish is designed to match specific wines from each region. There’ll be dishes to linger over in the evening and a concise lunch menu that City diners can make the most of in their short lunch breaks. Dishes include: burrata in tomato elixir; wild sea-bass crudo with spicy cantaloupe sauce; octopus tortelloni and home-made cantucci.
Split over two floors and with a terrace, BOTTLES will feature large communal tables, an open kitchen, a bespoke Mozzarella bar and space for larger groups, tasting diners and masterclasses.
BOTTLES opens 6th July 2018 at Old Spitalfields Market, 67 Brushfield Street, E1 6AA
