It’s Bread Ahead In Soho

Get bready for another reason to visit Soho’s Beak Street. Bread Ahead, the artisanal bakers, have been making their signature sourdough loaves in Borough Market for some time now, and following the success of their Mayfair residency this year Bread Ahead have found a permanent home in the heart of Soho.

Founded in 2013 by Matthew Jones, Bread Ahead has rapidly expanded to a second site in Chelsea, a baking school and now their latest venture, a Soho cafe. Jones has teamed up with designer Lisa Helmanis to convert the former stable into a bright 60-seat eatery with beautiful wooden furniture and an abundance of turquoise. The centrepiece, a long pink marble-topped counter, is surrounded by high bentwood stools, or diners may prefer to choose the snug seating area at the back of the restaurant with its burnt gold velvet hues.

Either way, they’ll be enjoying the Bread Ahead’s signature sourdough loaves, not to mention their other baked goods including customers’ favourites, like the amaretti, kouign amann and doughnuts.

The bakery will be open seven days a week. A Bread Ahead breakfast will include savoury and sweet dishes, including Croque Monsieur or brioche French toast with jam, honey and icing sugar (or bacon and syrup). For something more, then scrambled eggs will be served on a demi-brioche bun along with smoked salmon or else try the toasted brown sourdough with mushrooms a fried egg.

And if you’re on a post-Christmas detox, have no fear and instead tuck into their ‘build your own’ porridge menu, including healthy toppings like cashew butter, roasted coconut flakes, quinoa, chia seeds and Manuka honey. In addition there will be a selection of ‘free from’ dishes, including their gluten free waffles (made with chestnut flour) with almond milk yoghurt, berries and compote.

Lunch will be equally delicious, with a wide selection of sandwiches served in the various Bread Ahead classic breads, and can be taken along with one of the cafe’s two regularly rotating salads either at the table, or take away.

So dough pop along when Bread Ahead opens this week!
