You’ve Gouda be kidding us! Another La Fromagerie’s opening and, listen Caerphilly, this time they’re coming to Bloomsbury. Could things get any Feta?
Our favourite cheese emporium, La Fromagerie, has long been supplying their incredible selection of whiffy wares to some of the best chefs and restaurants in London from their shops in Marylebone and Highbury. This September they will open their third shop, cafe and tasting room. The wedge-like site on the corner of Lambs Conduit Street will feature their signature Cheese Room, a shop selling seasonal fruit and veg and will accompany a 26-cover bar cafe and bar with al fresco dining available on the pavement outside. Diners will be able to enjoy produce from the shop with cheese and wine pairings alongside charcuterie, a smoked salmon and oyster bar, salads and La Fromagerie’s famous Fondue Savoyarde.
La Fromagerie was born when Patricia Michelson bought a wheel of Beaufort Chalet d’Alpage from a farmers’ market while skiing in France. After initially selling cheese from her garden shed she moved to a market stall in Camden Market before opening her first proper shop in Bloomsbury. Over the years the shop has gathered a huge following, with the likes of Marcus Wareing relying on La Fromagerie for all their cheesy needs.
We can’t wait to visit the new location, the extensive renovation has uncovered various original Georgian fittings which they’ve incorporated into a design rich in nods to the building’s heritage and that’ll will fit well with the wooden panelings and dark green velvet banquettes inside. But most of all it’s the fabulous selection of cheeses that will really drive us Emental!
