This autumn sees the launch of Buddha-Bar London and Parisians, Tarja Visan has brought her expertise across the channel and into the heart of Knightsbridge.
Buddha-Bar London aims to push culinary boundaries and the menu blends Far Eastern cuisine with Western tastes and influences. Chinese, Japanese, Thai and other Eastern flavours are stylishly entwined to spearhead a new-wave Pacific Rim cuisine. Dishes created especially for London include Venison Tataki, Smoked Duck and Foie Gras Gyoza, Dragon Scallop and Pan-fried Seabass with Shiso Butter.
You’ll also find Buddha-Bar signatures such as the famous Buddha-Bar Chicken Salad, Seared Sesame Tuna, Wok Fried Beef, Spicy Tuna Tartar and Five Spiced Barbeque Chicken. And then the BB pastry chef – formerly of The Dorchester’s China Tang – has created a dessert menu of decadent Pan Asian treats featuring Ginger Lime Cheese Cake with Pineapple Salsa, Chocolate Sesame Bars with Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream, and Mango Pearls with Coconut Cream.
Drink Heart of Darkness – a sophisticated blend of red grapes, cognac and red port; The Ultimate – Maraschino liquor, Cointreau and pineapple or perhaps even Oh My Dog!!! – a velvety concoction of rose syrup, Pama liquor and white pepper infused gin.
Set over two floors, interiors are a fusion of colonial and baroque style. Stunning crystal Chinese dragons hang from the ceiling and sculptor, David Begbie, has designed the maquette of the Buddha sculpture, 'TRANSPOSE', created from a single sheet of bronze mesh – plus a wall-mounted piece called 'TRANSCEND', made of 207 brass Buddha figures. But no Buddha-Bar is complete without the beats so get down to live DJs spinning a mix of electro, tribal and all-time favourites.
