When Wagamama told us they were introducing a take-away service, fist-pumps were felt all round. Why? Because nothing beats a katsu-curry to your doorstep. The moral of the story being, when your favourite eatery gives you the option to take-away, it’s a pretty great feeling. Especially for the more indulgent work lunch-breakers amongst us, for whom a cheese and ham sandwich just doesn’t cut it.
Introducing Caravan-To-Go, an expansion of the takeout offer that the empire of Caravan restaurants offer. The concept will be introduced at the new restaurant in Fitzrovia, located in Yalding House, or for the music buffs, the old BBC Radio 1 recording headquarters. Re-create pre-work Parisian coffee and croissant culture by sampling a freshly baked good from their flagship coffee roastery. The roastery will serve up all things breakfast-goals, from rye IPA coffee cream croissants to coddled egg, miso sweet potato mash and chive butter pots. The grandiose and quirky new location certainly doesn’t hold hands with the restaurant’s name, with an intriguing record room in the basement available for hire with a sideboard of treats and a dedicated bartender.
For those who daydream of sunnier climes whilst sat at the work desk with the Monday blues and an overflowing inbox, try Caravan’s globally-inspired menus, also known as their ‘food well-travelled’ options. The expansion of the fresh selection of dishes will see ‘can it be lunch already’ options including Waakye rice and beans, shito mayo, chopped egg and smoked mackerel and new all-day menu dishes confit garlic oil infused herb shrub mussels and chargrilled lamb cutlets with kerelan green sauce. On the drinks front, if coffee just doesn’t cut it, sample something stronger and try a fermented sake lees martini or the 24-carrot cocktail with carrot, turmeric shrub, tequila and house-infused falernum.
Championing sustainability, Caravan have already banned plastic straws and will also be introducing their new reusable lunchbox and coffee cup, meaning there is no excuse for you not to return time and time again to fill them up.
Caravan: Opening in July, 152–156 Great Portland Street, W1W 6AJ, www.caravanrestaurants.co.uk
