On the 10th of October, the Gentlemen of the Kate Kennedy Club have the pleasure of hosting The Charity Opening Ball 2008 in support of Home Start. An exciting blend of old world luxuries and modern refinery, the Opening Ball promises to be one of the most extravagant and spectacular black tie events of the season.
As it marks the beginning of the social calendar at the University of St Andrews, the Opening Ball provides the first point of contact between new undergraduates, and existing students, creating an atmosphere vibrant with enthusiasm with fresh excitement.
Before the ball, guests are welcomed to a reception at the majestically illuminated United College Quadrangle, a charming medieval courtyard in the very heart of St Andrews, where they are greeted with champagne served by members of the Kate Kennedy Club. Later, when the sun is set, the guests are guided through St Salvador’s Quad and into the adjacent groomed lawns where the Ball is held.
Variety is the evening’s only theme. In a style typical of the Kate Kennedy Club, the ball blends modern fun with old world splendor by inviting renowned electro-house DJ Michael Woods to perform with his latest act Out of Office before the stunning medieval backdrop. Other performers include DJ James Matthews and, off of their Jack Wills sponsored UK tour, The Brent Flood. In recent years, the ball has attracted acts as famous and diverse as Groove Armada and the Pigeon Detectives. Over the past two decades, the Kate Kennedy Club has developed the Opening Ball into one of the largest and most prestigious black tie events in Scotland. Indeed, the Opening Ball has consistently sold out over the past eight years.
At ticket collection guests are invited to take part in a raffle prize with generous gifts from Thomas Pink, Hunter Boots and The Balmoral Hotel. With all profits from the Opening Ball 2008 going to Home-Start East-Fife, a local scheme of the UK’s leading family support charity, and other local Fife charities. The Kate Kennedy Club would like to thank their sponsors: Cass Business School of City University London, Shmooz, Walkers Shortbread, Alibi, Thomas Pink, Hunter, The Balmoral Hotel and The Handbook for making the 10th October a night to remember.
