The Handbook
The Handbook

Put another shrimp on the barbie, head down to Ramsey Street and let’s do a bush-tucker challenge while listening to Men At Work. Or let’s forget all the cliches and instead head to Scarlett Green for a real taste of Antipodean living.

The restaurant, inspired by Melbourne and Sydney cafe culture, is opening in the centre of Soho next month and looks set to be the perfect place to find healthy food in a relaxed yet buzzing atmosphere. And founder Daisy Green certainly has form, she’s already made a mark on London cafe culture with openings including Timmy Green in Nova, one of Vogue’s Top Paleo restaurants in 2017, and Darcie and May Green, two boats in Paddington Basin with artist Sir Peter Blake.

So what can we expect from Scarlett Green? Well the 4,000 square foot site on Noel Street in Soho will be smattered with artworks including a 20 foot mural by Paul Robinson (the artist, not the Neighbours character) and original pieces from Oli Epp, Louise Dear and Shuby. Meanwhile the laid-back vibe will be underscored with the acoustic live music in the afternoon and DJ sets later on.

More importantly, the food will be a genuine taste of down-under with small plates like Bondi hot prawns and Vegemite or truffle and cheese doughnuts making the restaurant’s Australian roots undeniable. Vegetarian and vegan options will abound, while sashimi and ceviche fans will be well catered for with seafood delivered daily care of the Looe market day boats. And there’s something for the carnivore too, not least their grass-fed rare-breed dry-aged steaks cut to order and chargrilled on their custom-made Josper Grill. Throughout the day they’ll be serving bottomless brunches and artisan coffees. And all this under the watchful eye of Chef Dominik Moldenhauer (formally of Dinner by Heston and Perth’s Greenhouse and The Shed).

The wine list will, obviously, be expansive and well selected, and look forward to some Aussie cocktails along the way.

If your experience of Australian culture is limited to Crocodile Dundee or a few drunken nights in Walkabout, tie your kangaroo down and head to Scarlett Green.
