The third part of our Christmas coverage will focus on deliciously festive afternoon teas, some rather creative Christmas cocktails and a few more of London's most exciting Christmas events. There's Christmas wreath gingerbread, some mini meringue snowmen, Mr and Mrs Claus cocktails, panetonne cocktails, a whole host of Christmas carols, and even some top-secret free-flowing Champagne to be enjoyed – all before Christmas! We'd better get started…

Christmas Afternoon Teas

InterContinental Park Lane

The InterContinental Park Lane’s afternoon tea is a stroke of genius; they have changed things up by using the Christmas carol ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ as inspiration for their cakes, sandwiches and even cocktails. There’s a treacle tart topped with gold rings, French egg sandwiches…all you have to do is guess which cake matches which lyric!

Reform Social and Grill

Reform Social & Grill at The Mandeville Hotel will be holding a festive afternoon tea featuring ‘British Winter Punch’ to start, followed by sandwiches including bronze turkey and cranberry flavour, and then traditional Christmas treats like brandy mince pies, dark chocolate yule log, mulled plum fancies and cranberry scones. And a little tip for you: the Champagne is free-flowing at weekends!

The Ampersand

To celebrate the festive season, The Ampersand will be putting a Christmas twist on their usual afternoon tea. Start off by indulging in some savoury treats which will include your favourite Christmas flavour combinations: roast turkey and cranberry gougeres, stilton and apple gougeres, smoked salmon, dill and cream cheese gourgeres and homemade sausage rolls. After indulging in a selection of plain and white chocolate scones, guests can treat themselves to Christmas-themed pastries including redcurrant macaroons, Christmas wreath gingerbread, mince pies, homemade fruit cake and dark chocolate mousse. It’s a good job Christmas is the perfect excuse to indulge.

The Capital

We all know Christmas is a time for families, and where better to celebrate this than at The Capital? For every two paying adults, a child can eat for free or you can treat your Granny or Grandpa for free instead! Some of the festive cakes include spiced ginger cake with butterscotch a dark chocolate and Clementine mouse and a chestnut cream tart – sounds delicious!

The Langham

Over at The Langham, Cherish Finden, the UK Pastry Chef of the Year, has created a celebratory afternoon tea for the beautiful Palm Court which includes indulgent crayfish and fennel sandwiches and an array of pastries – one of which is very festive a mandarin orange dome with golden stars. Definitely a must-visit for afternoon tea lovers.

The Ritz

Along with the show-stopping glittering decorations that adorn the hotel and some fabulous events like ‘Live at The Ritz’, the traditional Christmas Eve dinner and dance gala and the Christmas lunch, the Ritz will also be serving a special Christmas Tea which guests can enjoy while the Ritz choir sing Christmas carols in the background. This one’s sure to leave you with that Christmassy feeling.

51 Buckingham Gate

The Christmas afternoon tea offering at 51 Buckingham Gate comes complete with oh-so-cute mini meringue snowmen, spiced mulled wine cake, Christmas tree Zirmsterne biscuits and turkey and cranberry jam sandwiches. This is surely the ultimate winter afternoon treat – go on, we won’t tell anyone!

Christmas Cocktails

B-Soho has upped its cocktail game with the introduction of Mr Claus and Mrs Claus. The Mr Claus will go down smoothly with the men – or those who love traditional gentlemen’s whisky-based cocktails. Infused with sweet Christmassy notes of orange peel and cherry, one sip of this classically inspired 1960s drink will transport you to sitting by a crackling fire in Don Drapper-esque surroundings! The Mrs Claus is a lighter pomegranate-based cocktail with very Italian pink vermouth and sparkling sugar: it’s refreshing and glamorous.

Bunga Bunga

For an Italian take on Christmas, head to Bunga Bunga’s Festa di Natale: not only will they be hosting an enormous 7-course banquet, a beautiful Christmas tree, a special Christmas pizza and ‘Santa-oke’ where guests will sing Christmas carols karaoke-style, they will also be serving unique Christmas cocktails served with a bit of Italian flare. Among the hot aperitivo and digestivo cocktails will be the ‘Inverno a Napoli’, Italy’s fiery take on traditional mulled wine which will be sure to warm you up on a chilly winter’s day.

Disco’s Christmas cocktails are some of the most festive we’ve come across, ranging from a Disco Bauble Giant Sharer Cocktail to the Magic Snowball cocktail, which is a yummy mix of rum, cointreau, velvet falernum, fresh lime juice and angostura bitters. So if the Christmas crowds are getting too much for you, ‘check in’ to the Pan Am lounge at Disco-ho-ho: they have Christmas covered 1970s-style.

Mansion Bar & Parlour

Mansion Bar & Parlour will be hosting festive cocktail masterclasses: guests will be making, mixing, shaking, carbonising, and (most importantly!) tasting a selection of delicious cocktails, while being taught about the history and origin of the cocktail. Canapés will be served too, so this could make for the perfect hands-on office Christmas party if you’re looking for something a bit different this year.

Combining three of our favourite things – Christmas, cocktails and puddings – Sartoria are onto a winner with their Panettone cocktail, made from home-made raisin-infused gin, egg and vanilla, which will feature on the menu throughout the festive month. Sartoria will also be selling Panettone to guests and passers-by, perfect for presents or just to take home and devour in front of the fire – we won’t judge!

With two or three courses to choose from, you can catch up on the year and swap stories over chestnut velouté, turkey ballotine, and gingerbread, which is served with chocolate and praline truffle: delicious!

Cinnamon Kitchen

For the first time, Cinnamon Kitchen will be opening on Christmas Day, sparing you the hassle of food shopping in the run-up to Christmas and the endless amount of cooking on Christmas Day. Enjoy the warm, friendly atmosphere at Cinnamon Kitchen with the whole family and tuck into a 4-course meal and an aperitif. And if you’re feeling particularly indulgent, why not stop off at Anise, the adjoining bar, on the way in for a festively spiced cocktail?

Village Underground

The Village Underground will be hosting the ‘most fantastical Christmas party’ this year at The Imaginarium. Petersham Playhouse and Secret Productions will be collaborating to host a festive party like no other: inspired by the film ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’, guests will be transported to a tropical rooftop jungle, a lavish Belle Epoque brothel, and much more. Trapeze artists, sword fights, can-can dancers and astronauts will all add to the surreal experience, creating a Christmas party that is out of this world. With a deliciously theatrical spread supplied by the chefs from Urban Caprice, drinks from the complimentary bar and roller girls at the disco riot, The Village Underground is the place to go for a truly unique Christmas event.
