CURIO + TA TA: A Meeting of Two Minds

We love it when two things come together to create something even better like doughnuts and croissant or poodles and Labradors which is why we’re looking forward to the opening of CURIO + TĀ TĀ, which brings together street food team TĀ TĀ (aka Chefs Zijun Meng and Ana Gonçalves) with Curio Cabal café (Matt Broughton and Jeremy Duffy).

The team met when they were introduced by their mutual friend chef Nuno Mendes, who realised that his local coffee house, Curio Cabal wanted to extend its food menu, so he introduced Matt and Jeremy to TĀ TĀ and the rest is history. Opening inside the old converted TFL block in Haggerston, the restaurant is all about rice and will serve a concise menu of snacks, hot plates and cold dishes all designed to accompany the perfect bowl of rice.

The menu has subtle Chinese and Portuguese touches reflective of the chefs’ roots; you’ll find the likes of braised peanuts served with edamame and celery; spring rolls; prawn tartare with tobiko (tiny flying fish roe); Congee with rich chicken stock, herb sauce, crispy skin and dough sticks and Butifarra (Catalan pork sausage with fermented turnip tops and a fried egg). To finish there’ll be RiceCream which will be served straight up or as a sundae with different toppings.

Of course there’ll be rice wine too as well as sake and house cocktails,from refreshing blends made with almond water, sake and rose ice to a black sesame Old Fashioned, Mezcal Espresso Martini and Pisco with watermelon and white wine foam.                            

Sit inside the intimate 34 cover restaurant or if the sun is shining then laze outside (which will have space for 60) cocktail in hand.
