The meatball crusade in London is relatively small in comparison to the burger brigade, but come next week they’ll be a new recruit as Curveball opens in Balham, joining the likes of Balls and Company and Belpassi Bros. in championing the humble meatball.
Opened by Hannah Pemberton, author of recipe blog, ‘The Kitchen Alchemist’ and Paul Harris, former CFO of Liberty, the menu is the culmination of their travels, memorable meals they’ve had and fresh British produce.
Small plates include the Bomba (chorizo croquettes) whilst larger plates include The Mothership – beef chuck and parmesan meatballs in a four-hour short-rib ragu and the Wizard of Oz, beetroot and tahini vegballs with lime avocado cream, popped seeds, pomegranate and freekeh. Add Tater Nots aka potato rosti balls on the side and finish with fresh donut holes pumped full of coconut mango, salted caramel or Nutella.
Ketel One’s brand ambassador, David Beatty has created the bespoke cocktail list and The Wine Fusion are looking after the wine list which will feature the likes of Matakana ‘Swallow Falls’ New Zealand sauvignon, a Chilean Carménère from Jenny Villa-Lobos and a Moldovan Pinot Grigio.
Split across two floors, Curveball will be a cosy affair with 26 covers upstairs and just 12 downstairs, when it gets warm enough to sit outside there’ll be alfresco dining too.
