Enrique, Ronaldo and Nadal Walk Into A Bar…

Off the back of Usain Bolt-ing to open up a restaurant, David Beckham and Guy Ritchie buying a pub and Idris Elba squashing 007 rumours by instead opening a bar, it’s safe to say it has been quite the celebs-turn-hospitality led few months. So, why not throw Enrique Iglesias, Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Nadal into the mix, eh?!

Yes, we scoffed at the random prospect but the news is true. The threesome, whose looks don’t stray far from triplet-dom, are financially backing Zela restaurant in Covent Garden; a restaurant we’re sure people are going to flock to for more than just the food…

Yep, Cristiano, who is more frequently recognised for his hunger on the pitch as opposed to off, will be the main backing behind the new Japanese and Mediterranean fusion venture, which will be based at the ME Hotel on the Strand in Covent Garden.

The “gastronomic director” is set to be Michelin-recognised chef Ricardo Sanz, however our odds were on someone like Taylor Swift or Del Boy after this influx of celeb owned bars/pubs/restos/anything simply hospitality related.

It’s safe to say Cristiano looks fairly smitten with his new venture; a far cry away from his facial expressions circa 2004 Olympics in Greece. And Nadal and Enrique? Well let’s face it, random doesn’t even cut it.

So what’s on the menu? Raw dishes including tatakis, tartares, sashimi, sushi and tiraditos, fresh fish and seafood, and classic dishes like pork gyoza. In other words, quite the eclectic if not slightly bizarre combo, (similar to the one opening the place).

But whilst we might sound sceptical we’re pretty sure Zela is going to be something special, and that the trio have got this in the back of the net…much like Nadal when he lost to Federer.

Zela can be found at Me London Hotel, 336-337 Strand, WC2R 1HA, www.zelarestaurants.com
