Friends Lucy Brown and Jenny Quintero are passionate about food, so much so that they left their successful careers and decided to set up the sort of restaurant that they would like to visit. The result? Jar Kitchen opening next week on Drury Lane.
Open throughout the day and into the early evening (making it perfect for a pre-theatre meal), the kitchen will be headed up by Dominik Moldenhauer previously of Heston Blumenthal’s Dinner and everything will be made from scratch in the kitchen – once everything is up and running they’re going to start smoking their own meat too.
Come the morning you can expect to find truffled mushroom omelette with goats’ cheese and caramelised shallots or slow cooked duck’s egg with peas pudding, grilled ham, brioche and potato crisps. Lunch will feature dishes such as ox cheek and cheddar croquettes with aioli and apple as well as house made tagliatelle, braised beef, kale, ale, mushrooms, and Jar Kitchen ricotta.
There will be a small but perfectly formed wine list made up of wines from the new and old world each chosen for their taste and story as well as a small selection of craft beers, cocktails and Monmouth Coffee at breakfast.
The 50-cover restaurant has a unique, minimalist décor which Lucy and Jenny have been completely involved with – they even helped with the building, it will feature stripped wooden flooring, dark blue walls, rustic bar stools and a mix of shared, individual and bar seating. Giving a nod to their name Kilner jars will hang from the ceilings as light shades.
