Fans of mac n’cheese, fried chicken and American cocktails listen up: Joe’s Southern Kitchen and Bar is spreading its wings and heading up to Kentish Town for the launch of their second restaurant.
You can expect to find the Covent Garden favourites on their menu – we’re talking devilled eggs, gooey corn spoon bread and beef short ribs, but they’ll also have their own signature dish; sweet tea brined fried chicken with lemon salt and Tabasco honey. As you can imagine this isn’t the sort of place that you go if you’re after small portions and silver service, nope this is the sort of place to get stuck in, eat with your hands and not care if you get it all over your face.
They’ve gone for the Americana look with a modern, urban look, with a mix of raw exposed brickwork, parquet topped tables and scarlet leather banquette seating. They’ve finished it off with vintage Coco Cola signs and neon American billboards.
But that is not all, oh no, once you’ve finished eating, or if you just want to pass the eating altogether (although why would you do this?) then you can head downstairs to the basement bar which was once a police station and is now aptly named Jailbird. The original cells have been transformed into cosy alcoves for drinking and the menu features contemporary takes on Southern classics Julep and Sazerac alongside a large choice of bourbons and ryes.
The best of South America in North London.
