Time for a geography question, do you know the capitals of South Korea, Japan and Taiwan? If not, get to Google now. The reason why we’re asking? Because KOJAWAN (KOrea, JApan, TaiWAN is launching at the start of April and it’s going to be serving soul food from these three nation’s capitals (Seoul, Tokyo and Taipei if you haven’t got to Google yet).
Found at the top of the 23rd floor of London’s Hilton Metropole, KOJAWAN is a futuristic izakaya (they’re Japanese gastropubs), think hi-tech furnishings, sci-fi materials, manga graphics, art installations and a unique, retro-modern vibe.
It’s going to be serving up a playful menu created by acclaimed chefs Bjorn Van Der Horst (Greenhouse, La Noisette, Eastside Inn) and Omar Romero (Rhodes Twenty Four, Rosewood). Expect to find the likes of: glazed-lobster-dog and sesame-seaweed ponzu; popcorn prawns and liquorice-fish sauce; rice-sandwiches, and crab-turnip egg cake. For pudding will be their take on an Eton mess with lychee-green tea meringue and sake cream.
We love an exclusive here at The Handbook and so do KOJAWAN as they will be the first Kirin beer and raw bar in Europe where they’ll be serving their signature ‘K-slurpy’ a cold beer with a frozen top. Alongside this will be clay barrel-aged cocktails, sake, Champagne and other wines.
As they’ve said it’s ‘genuinely inauthentic.’
KOJAWAN: Opens 28th March, 23rd floor, Hilton Metropole, 225 Edgware Road, W1T 1QQ, www.kojawan.uk
