London’s New Pizzeria: Quartieri

By Emily Gray | 11th April 2017

Quartieri is a Napoletana pizzeria coming to Kilburn this spring with one aim – to make the best pizzas using the finest produce from Naples.

The menu will make the most of artisanal produce from independent suppliers, to start there’ll be frittura such as crocchette, arancini and bruschetta topped with buffalo mozzarella and tomato. Of course, you’re there for the pizza. The team are taking inspiration from a family recipe dating back to 1923, from the guys who brought Naples the famous Pizzeria Trianon Vomero. They’ll use flour and grain that has been milled in the traditional way, risen slowly with minimal yeast and you’ll be able to watch the pizzaiolos’ kneading, flipping and baking the pizzas. Toppings including marinara and puttanesca as well as those inspired by modern Naples such as the Costiera Amalfitano, made with lemon, and the Crema di Pistacchio. If you still have space then there’ll be sweet pizzas, gelato from Gelupo and cheeses from Campania.

The wine list will feature wines chosen from independent wine makers in and around the Naples region as well as a vineyard located beneath the Vesuvius volcano they’ve worked closely with to create their own red and white wine. There’ll also be Franciacorta, Italy’s first wine to be produced using the same method as Champagne, beer from the award winning Italian brewery, Birrificio del Ducatto and espressos or caffe corretto – espressos ‘corrected’ with liquor.

With 1960s Naples in mind, the restaurant will bring together geometric shapes with a palate of blues, berry reds, greens and brushed brass. Following the approach they take to food, the materials used will either be primarily organic or in their natural forms, with bricks, concrete and wood making up the main form. On the design front, each quarter of the restaurant will represent a different area of the city. A live foliage wall gives a nod to the produce found on the pizza and reminiscent of the vegetation see in ‘Broccoli Hill’ Vomero; the industrial area is represented through iron and lave stone; Mergellina is represented as varying shades of blue and the exposed brick walls, tiled floors and a colourful wall design emulates the organised chaos seen in the Old Town of Naples. To go with the pizza and cocktails, DJs, Smoking Guns aka Samantha Michelle and Iraina Mancini, will be putting together a playlist of northern soul, funk, ska, old school rock n roll and 60s R&B.

Londoners love pizza – it’s a given – so we’re ready for a dalliance with Quartieri.
