When it comes to burgers Ben Denner, founder of Lucky Chip, certainly knows a thing or two. When he first started up Lucky Chip in 2011 he went on the search for the perfect burger, testing not 1, not 2, but 70 bakeries until he found the right bun. #Dedication. And it worked. The burgers became a huge success and we all flocked to them, making our friends envious with our Instagram photos.
Well, this month sees the launch of his first permanent restaurant, Lucky Chip Burgers & Wine, opening on Ridley Road in Dalston. The 70-cover restaurant will serve their classic burgers such as their Cheeseburger, Kevin Bacon, Royale with Cheese and El Chappo which you can upgrade to include 50 day dry aged Galician beef. As no burger is complete without chips they’ll be accompanied by hand-cut, triple-cooked French fries which come with cheese, garlic, fresh herbs or truffle and Gorgonzola. There’ll also be a menu of small and large plates including 50 day dry-aged rib-eye steak with peppercorn sauce and chicken parmigiana.
The 100 strong wine bin will focus on Californian, Australian and New World wines although there will be wines from countries such as Lebanon. Come 7pm on Thursday they’ll open a cult wine which is usually sold just by the bottle and sell it by the glass. Every month a magnum will be opened to be served with a specially created burger to match the wine. On Friday nights guests will be able to sit at the 10-seater bar to enjoy the weekly changing multi-course taster menu.
Taking its inspiration from the iconic all-American steak houses of the 1980s, it’ll be laid back with dark hues and touches of dark green and mahogany. Booths will surround a central, sharing dining table. The walls will be adorned with emblematic artwork from the 80s, chandeliers will hang from the ceiling and the room will be filled with sounds of the 80s playing from an original amp, used at American Woodstock and on board the Queen Elizabeth 2 luxury cruise liner.
It’s time to ditch the January no carbs resolution.
