You know what autumn means, it means good bye summer salads and hello big old meals of comfort food, food for the soul in particular southern classics. And this autumn you need to take yourself over to the new Deep South haunt, Ma’ Plucker which is serving up chicken, in wait for it…three ways.

You’ll find it on Beak Street (where else?) in Soho and the order of the day is chicken with a side of R&B and a whole lot of soul. The concept is simple, choose your base – salad, house bun or maple waffle. Next up choose your sauce, we’re talking Ma’ Plucker Skin Gravy, Herb Dressing and Maple Chili Glaze and finally the main event, the chicken. First up is slow, low, spicy and pulled; second is crispy and coated in buttermilk dipped and finally there is chili rubbed and rotisserie of course is cheese is more your thing then there is also crispy halloumi and a short rib sub option too.

Of course you’ve got to order in the sides, get your hands on some Ma’s Slaw, collard greens, French fries and Crack & cheese, that’s deep fried mac ‘n’ cheese before you get the wrong idea. We hear Ma does a pretty mean frozen Margarita and boozy ice tea, although we’ve been told that there will be strictly no free (chicken) strips…yes we went there.

Summer doesn’t stop us from eating pudding, but now that it’s autumn we can hide under layers, we need the extra insulation which pretty much means you need to finish (sober) up with sweet ‘n’ salty popcorn, a cornflake and caramel sundae or a slice of their all- American pie – or you know, all three.

We also hear that they’ll soon be serving a drunken afternoon tea complete with mini-burgers and sweet treats, so keep your eyes peeled.
