May is set to be a great month, not only do we have two  Bank Holidays (hurrah!) we will also welcome to London, Western Europe’s tallest hotel and a restaurant based on a Pullman coach. We’ll be feasting on cuisine from Greece and Jerusalem, drinking cocktails made with marmite vodka and a Michelin-starred chef will make his return to the capital! So here are some of our favourite new venues opening this month. May, let’s go! 

City Social

Jason Atherton is expanding his empire as he takes to the London skyline with City Social, his 5th venue. Opening on the 24th floor of the iconic sky scraper Tower 42, wherever you sit  you will have stunning views across London – so no having to try and get that table.  With an elegant, art deco inspired interior, the focus of the restaurant will be the dramatic black and steel open kitchen in the centre of the dining room. Opens 1st May

Shangri La at The Shard

Are you ready for the tallest hotel in Western Europe? London’s only high-rise hotel? The hotel with undoubtedly the best views this city has to offer? Ready? Well luxury Hong Kong hotel group – Shangri –La Hotels and Resorts will be opening their third European hotel, Shangri-La at The Shard. Opening on levels 34-52 the hotel will feature 202 rooms all with floor to ceiling views, 3 dining venues – GŎNG, TĪNG and LÁNG and London’s highest infinity pool! The word to describe it? Breath-taking. Opens 6th May

The New Angel

Having spent 12 years away from the big city down in the depths of Devon, chef John Burton- Race is returning to London, to Notting Hill to be exact, as he opens The New Angel.  Having opened a restaurant of the same name back in Dartmouth in 2002, the Michelin –starred chef will be serving up the likes of John Dory with Devonshire  crab, stuffed courgette flower, sorrel,  potatoes and shellfish cream and for pudding, raspberry soufflé with white chocolate mousse and raspberry sorbet! It’s good to have you back John!  Opens 7th May


Bulgari Hotel and Residences are welcoming the launch of their new relaxed and contemporary restaurant Rivea this month. Alain Ducasse will be championing his protégé Damien Leroux who will be heading up the restaurant. Having spent 10 years under the tutelage of Ducasse in Provenance and Monaco, Rivea, will focus on French and Italian cuisine and the menu will be made up of small plates and will showcase Damien’s passion for vegetables. Opens 12th May

The Blues Kitchen Shoreditch 

Camden’s favourite American BBQ joint is heading east as they open their second venue this month in Shoreditch. Serving up the best Texan BBQ food, the venue which includes a spacious diner, 2 bars, a dance floor and privates events space will feature live music 7 nights a week, alongside the biggest bourbon selection in the UK. Yeehah! Opens 15th May

Peg & Patriot 

Matt Whiley is continuing  his cocktail revolution with Peg & Patriot at the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green. After working his magic at The Talented Mr Fox at One Leicester Square, this new bar will focus on distillation and will have 3 different style of gin on site including Lisle Street Gin (jasmine and currant), own house vodkas, liqueurs and vermouth. Oh and want a cocktail like no other? Try the Marmite vodka! Why Peg & Patriot? It’s located on Patriot Square and Peg is an old English word for a shot of liquor. See we’re educating you too.  Opens 16th May

The Palomar 

Opening on Rupert Street in Soho is The Palomar a restaurant serving up food from modern day Jerusalem. In the kitchen respect for the soul and tradition of old Levant will be blended with modern influences and techniques, whilst the interior, which draws inspiration from the 1930s romantic perception of travel, represents the journey and adventure made from Jerusalem to London. Food wise expect to find dishes such as Moroccan oysters, Josperised onions filled with freekeh, herbs, nuts and pomegranate and Pulpo à la Papi – mulukhiyah leaves, chickpeas, spinach, yogurt and chilli. Opens 19th May

Jenius Social 

The food revolution is starting over in Islington with the opening of Jenius Social – a new foodie haven where anyone who is even a little bit interested in food can get together to connect, talk and share. They will be hosting daily food adventures including supper clubs, cookery classes and special events oh and there is also an on-site deli and shop too. Perfect!  Opens 21st May


For those of you who don’t know Opso is the Greek word for delicacy – it is also the name of Marylebone’s latest restaurant. Start the day with Early Grey infused rice porridge, or tsoureki – a brioche-style bread flavoured with aromatic Greek spices, served with clotted cream and sour cherries. Come back later for their variation of fish and chips: snails and chips with bacon and sherry vinegar or spetsiota – grilled grouper in a squid ink bun with tomato confit sauce and finish with loukoumades – a puffed dough dish infused with thyme honey and served with kaimaki ice cream. Opens Late May
