When it comes to summer, BBQs in theory, are great. That is until it decides to rain/someone forgot the charcoal/you don’t actually know how to cook the sausages and everyone gets a dodgy stomach. So we might be being a little pessimistic but that’s only because come the start of July when we want a BBQ we’ll be heading to MeatUp which is opening just around the corner from The Handbook HQ.

The all-day restaurant and late-night bar says it’ll be like a party in your own back garden, except bigger and better – swapping packets of burgers and little speakers with DJs and proper dishes. It’s the work of Sachin Khanana (former Libertine and Raffles owner) and joining him will be Head Chef Stephen Hinkley (Meatopia and Foxlow), general manager Adam Byallas (Q Grill and Sushinho) and the team behind the interiors is Keane Designs who have previously worked on Burger & Lobster.

On the menu you’ll find signature dishes of MeatUp smoked and BBQ glazed spare ribs and MeatUp chargrilled chicken pieces with lime mayonnaise. Crayfish mac ‘n’ cheese with shallots will be joined by monkfish and pepper skewers with silver anchovies, smashed jersey royals and chilli herb sauce as well as salads of British asparagus, courgette, pea, mint and jersey royals.

Since this is a garden party you’ll find a summer inspired cocktail list featuring the likes of the Lemon Curd Collins made with Beefeater Gin, lemon curd, yellow Chartreuse, lemon juice and tonic as well as extensive Prosecco list – said to be one of the biggest in town.

Bringing the outdoors, indoors the restaurant will feature bare bricks with a living wall of ivy creeping its way around the open-plan kitchen and dining counter. Both the 50-cover restaurant and the 37 cover bar will have an urban back yard feel.
