Nothing is what it seems… no we haven’t turned our hand to fortune reading (although that could be quite the business venture), that line is actually the ethos behind MNKY HSE, a new bar and restaurant that opens next week on the former site of Dover Street Wine Bar in Mayfair. Fitting name, given it’s the year of the monkey.
Set across two floors, it’ll serve Latin American food alongside live music and DJ sets. The black outside door with a monkey head knocker will lure you into space which is set to be dramatic, luxurious and talked about. The upstairs restaurant and bar will feature dark wooden parquet flooring, a murano crushed chandelier and leather clad banquette style-seating. Downstairs you’ll find an open plan kitchen and more banquette seating – which can be adjusted so you can dance and table-hop, among your friends obviously, don’t just join someone else’s table… There’ll also be a series of private booths which have been built into the vaults and will be covered with vintage steel lift doors. Walls will be adorned with paintings in the style of classic portraits but with a twist, take the cheetah in dress uniform for instance, other walls will feature metallic psychedelic swirls and others will look more distressed with patches of faded gold on white stone.
On both floors you’ll find a stage which will host the international and resident DJs, performers, MNKY HSE’s house band and other musicians – entertainment is very much part of the experience here.
On the food front, MNKY HSE will be the first UK project for head chef, Pablo Peñalosa Nájera (Four Seasons – Bogotà/ Morimoto – Mexico City). He’ll be combining British seasonal ingredients with traditional elements of Latin American cuisine to create dishes which emphasis the Latin American spirit of sharing; add in some mezcal and you’ll definitely be having a party.
MNKY HSE: Opens 4th October 2016, 10 Dover Street, Mayfair, W1S 4LQ, www.mnky-hse.com
