With 2015 only a matter of days away, we’re starting to look at what’s in store for London’s restaurant scene, starting with Murakami on St Martin’s Lane – a contemporary Japanese restaurant, set to open on the 5th January.

Specialising in sushi, rolls, sashimi and dishes from the robata grill, we’ve heard highlights include yellowtail carpaccio with chili, smoked eel and avocado salad and a golden dragon roll. Those looking to just eat sushi can sit and watch the nigri and sashimi being prepared by the chefs at the dedicated sushi bar which sits 6-8 or if you’re after a bigger party then they have a private dining room with space for 40 diners.Cocktails will also play a key part – as they should in all restaurants and have been created by Brixton’s famous Shrub and Shutter and include Japanese ingredients such as sake and Nikka whisky.

The restaurant will focus around the stunning 12sq metre living wall and the aesthetic is inspired by the five elements of Japanese philosophy. So the robata grill is the fire, water is reflected in the fresh fish served, beautiful stoneware crockery from Japan ticks off the earth element, the plants are inspired by the wind and the fun atmosphere pays homage to the sky -not too sure about the last one but we’re rolling with it!
