Loving the Artic Monkeys so much, Nathan Outlaw’s protégé, Tom Brown, has announced that his debut restaurant will be called Cornerstone after a song from the band’s third album.
Opening on the 24th April in Hackney Wick, the restaurant will be showcasing Tom’s simple clean cooking which makes the most of British produce in sharing plates. Think, raw mackerel with lime pickle, coconut yogurt and crispy garlic; marinated squid accompanied by black pudding, blood orange and a brown butter dressing and for pudding, Cornerstone’s pear crumble accompanied by Earl Grey ice-cream.
To drink you’ll find natural, organic and biodynamic wines, craft and bottled beers and a gin made exclusively for the restaurant. Created with Cornish distillery, The Wrecking Coast, it’s distilled with cloudy apple juice rather than water and contains juniper, coriander seeds, liquorice root, angelica root, Seville orange, lemon, lime and rosehip.
East London based architects, Holland Harvey have created an elegant but informal space, with the talking point being a table created from a 500-year-old oak that was salvaged from a river in Croatia. Impressive.
