Later this month, Notting Hill will see the arrival of Farm Girl (ok so it’s not quite a real farm) which is bringing relaxed, healthy Australian dishes to Portobello Road – if they could throw in the Australian weather in too, that would be helpful.
Founded by young entrepreneurs Rose Mann and Anthony Hood, Farm Girl will mix memories of the farm with their love of travel to serve up nutritious yet substantial food. The menu has been created by Benoit Marmoiton with nutritional guidance from Dr Melly Lou who founded Liquorice Lifestyle, so everything you eat is going to give you that healthy sort of feeling and glow that sandwich you normally get could never give you (sad, we know).
Open from 8am in the morning you can get your health fix on the way to work with Farm Girl Porridge made from jumbo oats, chia seeds, Himalayan salt, coconut oil and topped with either yoghurt, berries or wait for it… everyone’s favourite, avocado. Come lunch, swing by and pick up a roast beetroot salad, filled with feta, purple sprouting broccoli, coriander, hemp and pumpkin seeds and beetroot. Or go for the BLT which has been given a vegan makeover, so you’ll find your lettuce, tomato, avocado, cashew chilli guacamole, but instead of some kind of tofu there’ll be coconut bacon. Yup coconut bacon – think along the lines of flaked coconut naturally flavoured to taste like the real deal.
Coconut features pretty heavily on the menu, but given its super food and beauty status we’re down with that. Coconut Drip is the signature drink, made from cold brew coffee prepared with toasted coconut, ice and homemade coconut or almond milk. Inventive blends of smoothies include watermelon, aloe vera, banana, tarragon and our favourite friend in 3 forms, coconut oil, coconut water and coconut yoghurt!
Keeping a light and airy feel, the café will be adorned with turquoise tiles and bespoke graffiti from Pang London which sets to bring the farm to London. On the mezzanine you’ll find a large farmhouse style table to cater for larger parties or communal dining whilst 45 coconut lovers can sit downstairs.
