November Openings

Somehow it is November already, this week we've celebrated Halloween and next week it is Bonfire Night, the nights are drawing in, it is definitely much colder and sooner or later London will be submerged in fairy lights. Oh and VQ has just opened a second restaurant, Kensington Garden is welcoming a new restaurant in a former gunpowder store, East Coast America hits Covent Garden and the Centre Point Building is welcoming a new club, Zinc. Forget the fireworks, London's newest venues are far more important.

The Magazine

The former 1805 gunpowder store in Kensington Gardens is opening today as The Magazine, just five minutes from new Serpentine Sackler Gallery. Head chef Oliver Lange who has spent rather a lot of time in Japan has created a menu that is traditional yet also oriental. For main course think Iberico pork cheeks, heritage carrots, plum and crackling and for pudding it has to be warm chocolate bread pudding and roasted tea ice cream. Opens 1st November www.magazine-restaurant.co.uk

VQ

Calling all late night eaters, early risers and those in search of breakfast at any time of the day, it’s what we’ve all been waiting for: the second VQ is here, 18 years after the first restaurant opened in Fulham. Situated on the ground floor of the St Giles hotel on Great Russell Street the restaurant will have 120 covers and will have a huge light wall inspired by the changing light throughout VQ’s serving hours. Opens November1st  www.vq24hours.com

The Sign of the Don

Robyn and Robert Wilson, founders of London's Bleeding Heart and The Don restaurants, are back with , The Sign of the Don a new bistro and bar which is  adjacent to The Don itself. Sitting where the  original Sandeman Port and Sherry Cellars  once stood, the menu is reflective of its Spanish and Portuguese heritage; think 12-hour confit suckling pig with grape mustard and black pudding and whole roasted chicken stuffed with Bellota Sobrasada on purple potato bread, which is from the Bleeding Heart’s very own bakery! Opens 3rd November www.thesignofthedon.com

Earlham Street Clubhouse

Bringing a slice of preppy American East Coast and a slice of pizza or two to Covent Garden is Earlham Street Clubhouse. The  interior is a mix of glamour and retro seaside colour, Victorian mahogany and bespoke copper is offset with reclaimed wooden panelling, exposed bricks, Coney Island fairground lights and recycled tin advertising signs. The cocktails are inspired by parties at The Hamptons and the pizzas are New York thin crust. Oh and the booths 1) are at the end of secret passages and 2) have vintage gas pumps delivering ice cold beer directly to the table. Opens 11th Novermber www.esclubhouse.com

Sixtyone

Claiming that they are the restaurant everyone wants on their doorsteps, we’re excited to see what Sixtyone will be like when it opens in Mayfair in mid-November.  The latest venture from Searcy’s, the restaurant will be serving up British cuisine with strong flavours and the finest quality from UK’s best artisan suppliers! Don't fret if you can't move to Mayfair to have it on your doorstep, there is always the tube. Phew. Opens 11th November www.sixtyonerestaurant.co.uk

The Prince of Wales

Historic Brixton venue, The Prince of Wales has been given an complete transformation by Simon Allen and Wayne Saunders. With a restaurant, bar, two terraces, a large entertainment space and serveral events room it is set to be a hub of great food and entertainmennt. With much of the produce coming from the local Brixton markets, dishes gracing the menu include salt cod cakes with pea guacamole and come the weekend a breakfast pizza – that's right a fry up on a pizza. Opens 12th November www.pow-london.com

Zinc

Pierre Condu is bringing a new bar and club to the 31st floor of the iconic Centre Point building, Zinc. Open on Friday and Saturdays, the club is elegant, dramatic, opulent and bold and will be host to a series of DJs playing everything from beach house to hard house. Cocktails include the 21st Century, an infusion of Grey Goose Vodka, white chocolate, lemongrass, Billecart-Salmon Champagne and rosemary, we know sounds amazing! Opens 13th November www.zinc.uk.net

Foxlow

The Hawksmoor duo Will Beckett and Huw Gott are back with a new 100 cover restaurant in Clerkenwell, Foxlow. What’s on the menu? Meat of course, but what might not be so obvious are the cuts, one of which will be Deckle. What is equally surprising is that salads also feature heavily on the menu, perfect for a lighter lunch. But fear not puddings come from Hawksmoor’s pastry chef Carla Henriques and there is a devilish list of cocktails. Opens 14th November www.foxlow.co.uk

Boopshi's

The first restaurant of its kind in London, Boopshi's is serving up ‘Schnitzel and spritz’ (how fun is it to say that?) Brothers Ed and Ben Robson are behind the restaurant and are using recipes that have been passed down to them through their Austrian grandparents and have been found in their Opa’s (grandfather’s) eighty year old cook book  so alongside the schnitzel the European-inspired menu will also include ox tongue, spätzle & cheese and their Oma’s apple strudel. Prosecco will be on tap and their spritz use their homemade sherbets – we can’t wait! Opens 18th November www.boopshis.com

Augustus Harris

Named after the 19th century manager of the Drury Lane theatre, Augustus Harris whose statue stands opposite the building this small, intimate bàraco  is the latest haunt to join Covent Garden’s food scene. Serving Italian produce throughout the day, guests can enjoy classic cocktails in the evening such as Bellinis and Negronis and a selection of crostini such as; Crudo di Montagna, goats cheese and fig, burrata with pesto and rocket, whipped ricotta, sea salt and herbs and pancetta, fennel and ricotta salata.
